I was wondering if this is normal for a newborn. I noticed this on his face like 4 days ago and its more on his right cheek and yesterday i noticed it on his neck now. They are very small and looks like pimples. If antone has any advice please write to me.

What can I do next?

The same thing happened to my son at the same age...It was on both cheeks, and didn't go away for a week and the baby was miserable. When I took him to the pediatrician, he told me it was excema and very itchy. I was told to apply .5% (not the 1%) hydrocortisone cream to his face 4 times a day. (He suspected it was caused by a change in Formula) The doctor also recommended Eucerin Calming Cream for him AFTER applying the hydrocortisone cream. Both are available over the counter in just about any drug store. (You should keep the baby's hands covered with cotton mittens so they can't scratch themselves.)

It worked like a charm, and within 2-3 days was almost nothing. I hope this helps...!

Yes, this is baby acne and it is perfectly normal, talk to your dr. Babies take up mom;s hormones during gestation and once they are born they release the excess and this is what happens. It will clear up soon, my daugther had it and it got worst before it got better as she developed craddle cap as well all over her face which are fat deposits oozing out and get yellow and crusty. It cleared up by 2-1/2 months. Congrats on your baby.

Hi, I am not a doctor or anyone in the medical field, but I have raised 5 children and have alot of experiece. This sounds like the pimples are from a heat rash. This is very common and nothing to worry about. My kids got them all the time (an occassionally still do). This happens during the hot weather and when there is alot of moisture (usually from sweat, drool, humidity, etc.)re the pimples on the side your baby has on the matress when he/she is sleeping? My kids also got them in the creases on their arms and legs (espcially in the rolls of their baby fat). I just put little baby powder on them and eveything cleared up as soon as the temperture cooled down. Do the pipmles seem to bother the baby? Keep an eye on the area to make sure it does not keep increasing in size and the pimples are not getting bigger.
Best wishes with your newborn!

It may just be a little heat rash, I wouldn't worry. Good luck!

My son had this very bad. The only thing that worked was Aquaphore or Aquafore. Not sure of spelling. It is similar to vaseline but thicker and very healing. I used it his entire toddlerhood. You have to put it on him after you bath him. It really works. I still keep it and use it on cuts, rashes and on my own skin problems. You will see a change within 3 to 4 days but keep using it. It can be from your hormones in breastmilk or just leftover from birth. Good luck.

Hi J.: The little pimples are totally normal. From what my pediatrician told me is that the pimples are a result in the hormones from the mother. If you are nursing, you may see more because the baby is still getting your hormones. I nursed my son for 4 1/2 mos (now 22 mos) and he had them right after he was born and all they were were tiny little whiteheads. They go away on their own. Plus it is their pores getting used to the outside world. Just don't pop them or try to scrape them off even if you get the urge. Your baby is still perfect. My nephew who is now 2 1/2 was nursed for 9 mos. When he was tiny, he was covered all over his face, and head. I was amazed because I never knew thati it could get that bad but again, the explanation was that it was due to the hormones. From what I understand breastfead babies are more prone to the "baby acne" than formula fed babies. I wouldn't worry about it unless they jusst won't go away or if they become large then I would talk to your babies pediatrician, but I am confident that your baby will remain perfect and sooner than later will be pimple free.

I hope that I was able to help you out some. Please feel free to email me back if you would like even if it is only for an update. L. :)

It's normal, I had 5 babies and each one got those pimples. Contrary to what you may hear, do NOT put anything at all on the child's face/pimples (I am a cosmetologist, BTW) . Just keep him clean and it will take care of itself, all my doctors have said that, not to put anything on it. You don't want anything on there to clog the pores and NOT allow it to get out/escape on it's own. Someone below was talking about Aquaphor... don't use it on his pimples it will impede their healing! But it is great to use everywhere else on the body for softness, and many people swear by it for mild diaper rash or as a preventative. Also great when you have intensely dry hands!!! Cover in that, put socks on your hands, and sleep in it... wake up to the softest hands EVER! LOL But seriously, don't put it on his face.

Totally normal - and he's right on schedule with having them around 4 weeks. My son had the exact same thing and I was worried; the pediatrician said it's called baby acne. My doula said they arrive just when you want to start sending photos to people...and she was right. So not to worry, they will disappear. But as always, consult your doc if you're concerned.

It is normal for 1 months old to get a little baby acne (all of the hormones coming out) but it could be eczema and that could be made worse by what you are washing your baby with. Most people think Johnson and Johnson is the greatest product but it has quaternium-15 which is a formaldehyde releaser and can really aggravate skin conditions and respiratory issues.

This could be a rash due to Aczema. This is a skin condition which my son had and still gets sometimes in winters(he is four years old now). Please see the doctor and stop using any soaps or lotions on the baby.Doctor can give some moisturizers for sensitive skin. I use Cataphil moisturizer for both my kids as they have aczema.

hello J., well yes this is very common in newborns they can be heat bumps now if the baby continues with the bumps for a long period or you see them increasing then it may be the lotion or maybe even the detergent you maybe using to wash the baby's clothes now to be on the safe side then maybe you should go see a doctor. please keep me updated :)

This is totally normal. Both of my kids had newborn acne and it started at around 3-4 weeks and lasted over a month. I thought it would never go away! The advice I was given was to just keep their face clean, never scrub the pimples and it will subside on its own.

Hi J.,

Yes, completely normal. It's normal for his age. It will clear up in a few week once his oil glands mature. Just keep his skin clean and dry and stay away from ointments and cream which will just irritate his skin. My daughter was the same way at that age. She is 10 weeks old now and her acne is gone. Congratulations on your little guy!

i've heard that it's from milk. whether breast milk, or (especially) formula!!! something about the hormones, and the milk, i'm not EXACTLY sure what the reason. all i know is so many of my friends kids had this, somewhat bad, and my daughter only got a few pimples a couple of times (no more then 1-5 at a time, for a couple of weeks) i noticed that when i fed her she wouldn't get them, but when she was mostly being fed by others (everyone LOVES to feed babies!) she would get them. the ONLY difference that i could tell between them feeding her, and me feeding her was that i wouldn't let ANY of the milk (neither breast, not formula since i was doing BOTH) stay on her face! i would constantly wipe her face with a warm wash cloth. once i started noticing the pimples and explained to everyone that they had to make sure they kept her face clean...she NEVER got them again!!! i mentioned this to another friend of mine and once she started wiping her son's face with a warm washcloth (sometimes a wipe) every time he'd get milk on his face, the pimples completely stopped! i NEVER put anything on her face other then the wipe or warm washcloth. now that she's 16 months old, i JUST started using some lotion, but just to keep her smooth and soft, nothing else. so i would say just keep him clean, make sure you don't let the milk just sit there for more then the feeding and immediately use a warm washcloth (or wipe if your out and can't get a warm washcloth) and it should definitely clear up VERY SOON!

My son was born with what they call "baby acne" it was all over his body. They told me not to use certain products with purfumes and that it would go away on its own. Hes three months old now and its pretty much cleared up he still has outbreaks every now and again but they are not that bad.Just try to keep the soaps and detergents the same as tolerable to the baby and it should clear up on its own,Good luck.
