10 Month-old with Allergic Colitis and Rectal Skin Tags

My son is doing alright on veggies and fruits but it seems like after just starting on meats and protein we're running into trouble again. Are there any other moms out there with a child with allergic colitis? I'm sure there are, I'd just like to talk to one! Do your kids get the skin tags and fissures on their bottoms still? I have never met anyone else that knows about this with infants/toddlers. I could just use some moral support I guess!! Thanks...

What can I do next?

Hi there. I am not sure about the allergic colitis, but my son has had rectal skin tags for quite some time, years. He is 3 and they don't seem to bother him, so we haven't done anything. I keep forgeting to bring it up with the pediatrician since it isn't really affecting him.

My daughter was born with a rectal skin tag, a very rare condition. I looked online for information but the only thing I could find at the time that didn't include me paying for it was a condition like your son's,i.e., getting them from straining when they are older. My daughter had surgery at two months old and has never had another one and she is now almost 6. She has never had any fissures or any problems with food. I will agree with the previous post to discontinue the meats for now. We were told to not start any until a year of age and that is what we did. Take it slow and things might be easier on his system. Have they recommended surgery for the skin tags? Ours was done outpatient at a children's hospital and she went home in just a few hours. The procedure took less than twenty minutes total and she didn't even need an IV. Good luck.

Your baby's system may not be ready for meats. Discontinue the meats & see if the condition improves; if it does wait until he is 1 year old to re-introduce the meat. Be sure to check with your Doctor to make sure all possibilites of the problem are eleminated.

I am the mother of a 3 1/2 year old with severe food allergies. They cause GI bleeding and numerous other symptoms, but we have not experienced skin tags. We have had some of the nastiest diaper rash you ever saw, with the skin literally scalded off his bottom.

You may contact me with specific questions. I have been on this journey for some time now. My (almost) 6 year old daughter has allergies too, and we dealt with the bleeding with her.

My children have several food allergies, but I didn't introduce foods until after 1 yr old. It's my understanding that the digestive tract is just not mature enough to break down the proteins in meats and nuts for a bit longer. Nuts, I believe, are 3 yrs old (yes, I'm even suggesting peanut butter waiting...) That's just my little input. My children went through a lot of eczema even when food was introduced & Dr for first 2-3 yrs stated it's probably something in the home or in the air... Poor kids suffered for a while. I will tell you there is hope. I will most definitely keep your little one in prayer ... in the meantime, I'd strongly recommend waiting on the heavy proteins. "Caring for your Baby and Young child" is a book I purchased from my pediatrician eleven years ago after my first of three children was born. It offered a lot of info on food intro, development, and such. I haven't looked at it in awhile, as for the most part, my children are all out of this stage, as the youngest just turned 7.

Lord bless you!

First of all, A., I would make sure I am feeding my child all organic products, even if you have to purchase and puree them yourself. Secondly, none of us really needs meat so why not give him non-meat proteins? I'm sure you could find a comprehensive list of them somewhere on line and then puree, puree, puree. I'd be happy to talk with you about other ideas I have if you'd like to call me. I'm not sure I'm permitted to discuss specific products, so a phone call would be best.

Good luck and may God bless you and yours.
