10 Month Old Not Crawling - Jackson,TN

I do not think you have anything to worry about My last child who is now 17 never crawled, he rolled everywhere and took his first steps at the end of seven months and been going strong ever since. All my children were different. Sometimes it takes a little longer for some children. If he does not crawl, don't worry. All my other children crawled and he is no different from them.

Don't sweat it. As long as she's trying to move in SOME fashion (rolling), she's doing fine. My 11 month old still doesn't crawl, but she gets around! I think I've refiled all my DVD's about 50 times!

hi I hope some of these reponses ease your mind a little even though moms still have worries even if everyone in the world says somethings ok lol anyway my son has and will always be a tiny fart i guess lol I didn't ever think he would start to crawl and he was getting to be about the age to start and then that month past and he still wasn't crawling and then the milestone marker for standing was approching and he still was not crawling. But then for about 2-3 weeks he started moving around like a little army man crawling but not up on his hands he would use his elbows lol it was funny and then he went straight to walking right before he turned 11 months. Babies will do what they want i guess though some babies wil develop eariler in other areas maybe your child isn't as active as she should be because she is focused on her vocal skills she may be a great talker while another baby the same age can't say mama yet but is already running. All babies develop in different stages but she'll get there. My main point was my son was in a lower pecentile and he didn't crawl either just kinda i guess pulled himself with his arms but now he can do anything else a kid his age can do. hope this helps

I wouldn't worry about it much until she's 1. Sometimes babies just take awhile to do stuff. They all develop at different speeds. The whole big baby thing is totally new to me. I've heard the opposite before. My small one was a late developer, but my big ones were early to crawl and walk. If you're really worried, you could always call one of the early intervention programs. They will tell you if it's normal or not and evaluate her if they feel it's necessary then work with her until she's above the 25%. Sometimes Drs will blow things off and never even mention Early Intervention, but I really wouldn't worry at just 10mths. Give her a couple more months before you start worrying.

My daughter crawled for about 2 weeks but not until she was about 11 months old and then when straight to walking, so I wouldnt be overly concerned about it. When she is 12 months if she hasnt done either one you may want to bring up your concerns to the dr again and let him know you are really worried about it.... it usually takes some effort to get a dr to slow down and pay attention to concerns like this but Im sure if he realizes you are really worried he will take the time to check everything out. I had the same experience with my son. Actually, he pretty much skipped crawling and went right into walking around 12 months. He wasn't able to put himself into a sitting position or stand himself up until about 14 months. For some reason he was lacking the stomach muscles that help you do those things. My pediatrician recommended we contact the Tennessee Infant Parent Services (TIPS - more info at http://www.wtsd.tn.org/tipshome.htm) to have our child evaluated and they offered some advice on exercises he could do to help him build those muscles. It's a free service.

Listen to your peds. Crawling isn't even used to gage how deveopmentally on target a baby is, because there are so many different forms of crawling, ages children start, and children who skip crawling all together. She may be a little behind when it comes to sitting up, but if she can sit unassisted, then I would give her some time. My son has to get onto his knees and push back into a sitting position. He is also a large (healthy) baby. She will catch up.

Don't worry not all babies crawl, each one finds there own unique way of getting about. Crawling is not a good indicator of development b/c some never crawl at all. Don't worry she will probably skip it and start walking instead. I too have a 95% baby and yes it is a bit more difficult for them to roll and such just b/c the weight does make things a bit harder, but your little one is already rolling and will master other things just as easily.

It's a common misconception that all babies must crawl. In fact, most babies don't. My Aunt has worked with babies most of her life and recently told me this when I inquired about my 8 month old.

Don't worry if she never crawls. The fact that she's pulling up means that she's developing properly.

Don't worry....she will do things as she is ready. My daughter was barely able to crawl at almost 15 months (I was worried), but soon after she started really crawling every where she was on her feet walking every where then she was running and all this happened within a few weeks. She'll do it all when she is ready.

My doctor and friends all told me #1 don't compare your child to other children. My doctor also told me that once my daughter would start crawling, rolling, walking, moving around more she would lose the baby weight and sure enough she did. My husband and I pretty lived on the floor playing with my daughter. All the parent magazine say that learning comes from playing. So we lived motto for a 6 months. My daughters are completely different when it comes to crawling and walking. My oldest daughter was walking before she crawling. She would walk around the coffee table to get around the room and several months she was walking own her own. And we think that might because I was working a lot of hours to keep myself busy. Which may have taken something from my daughter when i was pregant with her. With Sarah I really didn't work at all or at least not as hard. And Sarah started crawling around 10 months. And both girls are as healthy as they can be. I hope this can be of some comfort Savannah.

Hey, I have a nephew on both sides of the family who did exctly the same thing. They were both large babies and crawled very late if at all. One nephew only crawled about two weeks before he decided walking is better, and the other will be one in May and scoots along on his butt, but has yet to crawl. All this to say I think you're baby is fine and still in the normal range, especially since your ped. says she fine. Don't worry. Babies tend to forget we have them on a schedule and do things at their on pace, lol.

first (hugs) susannah.. second... sit back and enjoy the fact that she isn't getting into everything that she will be able to once she starts crawling/walking/running. lol im not trying to be funny. seriously, she is developing as she gets to it. i wouldn't worry to much about her. both of my sons were 15 months old before they started walking.. and were about a year old when they started crawling. different babies do different things at certain ages. If your ped isn't too concerned about it, then step back and look. try not to compare your baby girl to other children her age. Things will happen soon enough. You will see her doing what she is doing now one day.. and the next she will be walking. almost literally. lol .. enjoy her being little and not getting into everything.
