My little one always had diarrhea every time he was cutting teeth. Once the teeth broke through within a couple of days it finally let up.
When I last wrote, my 9 month old son had light diarrhea for 4 days. its is now going on the 2nd week. He has diarhea after feeding. I have taken him to the doctors and was told that it has to work its course. I have continued on the BRAT diet with him. He is teething, not vomitting or has no fever. Has anyone had any experience with this? I thought it was slacking up but he has sine went again. Any advice. Do you thinkit may be a formula alergy just now forming?
Thank you all for your posts. I really appreciate al of your advice. You have helped me remain calm. Although he still has the diarrhea, I have taken him to the doctors and was told that it just has to work its course. They don't believe it is anything serious and told me that if it lasts into the end of next week then to bring him back for stool tests. They also sugested that I try a different formula- Enfamil- b/c he may have developed an allergy to Similac.

please continue to consult with the Dr. and update to rule out any further complications with dehydration. The weather is hot and he will be loosing important fluids through fecal.
Hope it runs its course soon. Keep in mind, unlike mothers milk, big business changes their ingredients at times. One little change can change something in one little person.
L.,
I posted a question similar to this not long ago. I would definitley give your doctor a call. I thought my sons was from teething but when i talked to the dr on the phone he said that normally teething diarhea only lasts 5-7 days. my son had it for 3 weeks and we are still battaling it. Needless to say i took him to the doctor and they did a feces specimen they think he may have a parasite (we camp alot and there is a swimming lake there) or it is a virus. I am still waiting on the results. My son is 21 months old.
Hope this helps
Hi L.! Yes diarhea can last forever. My son had it for over 3wks!!! Finally passed like a week ago, hang in there it will pass:) Best Wishes, leah
If he isn't losing weight and isn't otherwise acting sick I wouldn't get too worried. My daughter just had a GI bug that lasted almost that long, I thought it had cleared up and a day or so later she was having diarrhea again for a few days. Nasty stuff too. If you think he is acting sick, losing weight or the diarrhea is bloody then I would call the doctor right away and have him seen. Good luck.
Yep! Go through this just about every time my kids start teething! Ill bet shortly after that tooth hes working on comes through, the diahrea will slow down, or even stop!
If you think it may be from the formula, then buy a small can of a different kind of formula and try that. If it doesnt get better by either the end of the can, or after a week ( Id personally give it a week to see), then you know its not from the formula.
I personally think it is just from him cutting teeth though hun. Give him some pedialyte so he doesnt dehydrate, but he should be fine.
Worst case scenario, it may be just a little tummy bug, but if thats the case, the doctor would have told you :D
Good luck,

Whenever my kids get a stomach bug, the diarrhea part last FOREVER! Usually more 2-3 weeks, maybe even 4 weeks sometimes.
Is he swimming? Sometimes they drink the water and it causes diarhea.
When my daughter was teething she also got diarrhea. It lasted a solid two weeks without letting up. As long as he is drinking enough to prevent dehydration I wouldn't worry.
don't worry. it WILL run it's course. i had the same problem with my son just a few months ago when he was about 7 months. first we went thru constipation for like 3 weeks. then diarrhea for about 14 days. i took samples to the doctor and had them tested about the last few days of it and all of a sudden, it stopped! now, he's 9.5 months old, drinking whole milk and he drinks straight apple juice along with lots of fruit and veggies to keep him regular (he goes once sometimes twice a day!).
don't forget, the bratt diet is only bananas, rice, apples (not apple juice) and tea and toast. try apple sauce, that should help and also baby rice cereal-although, he's pretty much the same age as my son and i give him plain white rice (he never liked the baby cereal)
good luck and let us know if you need more help.
