11 Month Old Crawling but Not Pulling Up

I wouldn't be concerned. He is still young and like you said everyone develops at different levels. My son is 15 months old and didn't start crawling until he was 13 months old. He is just now getting to where he will sit up on his knees to look at something but still won't pull himself up to a standing position. It is discouraging when you see the other kids in their daycare class that are doing things earlier but they will do it when they are ready.

You have nothing to worry about. My son didn't start pulling up on things and begin trying to walk until he was almost 2 (two months shy of 2). The doctor was worried that there might be something wrong so he sent us to get x-rays and they came back perfectly normal. If you are really worried about it talk to his doctor and tell him your worries. He might suggest the same thing with doing the x-rays.

My daughter was the exact same way. We did see a specialist, but we were just told to wait another 6 months and if there is no improvement, we'll come back. She was 11 months old at the time. She started crawling at that point and stood on her legs for the very first time when she was 13 months old. She didn't walk until she was 15 months. SO many people in my family was concerned, but she was just fine. She was more or less a floppy child, even when my husband would carry her to bed. She would just be limp. I tried gymnastics when she was 3 and it just didn't work. However, we tried gymnastics again when she was 7 and she LOVED it! She ended up traveling all over for gymnastics competitions. She is now 16 and has not had any problems.

I would still ask the pediatrician and see what he thinks, BUT I just want to reassure you that it could be nothing, so don't worry too much.

Have you ever considered gymnastics? My daughter started The Little Gym when she was 8 months old. She is 3 now and it has helped her balance tremendously (not to mention her vocabulary with all of the "straddle/arabesque/pike talk that I have to hear). She wasn't very coordinated and hated to crawl (she was the opposite of your son, loved to hold things and walk but hated crawling). She couldn't even jump with 2 feet off the floor until she was 2 or older. Now she does all of that stuff. She goes to ASI now but The Little Gym takes younger babies, ASI starts at 18 months I think. Just look into it if you want.

My youngest daughter did not walk until she was 19 months. We did have her evaulated but all the test came back that she was normal just wait and see if she does walk before she turned 20 months. I did get her a push walker to help her but about couple of months into it I noticed she was using it a cruch so I took it away and hide it. She finally started to walk on her own. I thought she would never walk and I would be carring her forever but now she is a very busy 2 yr old with lots of energy.
He will walk eventually give him some time.

My son is 14 months and when he was 11 months he was doing exactly what your child is doing. My son is still only taking a few steps by himself and he crawls everywhere else (or walks with a little walking toy that he pushes). Don't worry, your son is in a totally normal stage for his age.

If you are concerned please talk to your pediatrician first then you can call 800-628-5115 to talk to your local ECI and have someone come out to see if they can help.

I would not be too concerned, but I would highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a pediatric chiropractor. You can find one in your area at www.icpa4kids.org, and read why it is important to have children's spines evaluated. Crawling is one of the most important developmental milestones. Too many people try to rush their children past it on to walking, and do not realize how terribly important it is for the brain and the rest of the body. My now 2 year old daughter did not start walking until she was 15 months and she NEVER crawled or pulled up! In the last few months before walking she would scoot on her butt. I would not worry at all. I never knew anything about children until I had my own two but now one thing I know for sure is that they develop SO differently. Even though she was a late walker she is an incredible talker for a 2 year old.
Your son will pull up when he is ready to and then you will probably wish he hadn't!
