My big girl did slow down significantly after a year old, which is typical, so he could possibly get through the season in 18 month clothes if he's not quite that size now. As far as the pj's go, though, I definately think they should fit pretty snug on the body, so they don't twist when he sleeps and rolls, which is uncomfortable. My daughter would pull at her footies if they were long.

it all really depends on your childs growth. my son was 6 years old and still wore some 2t clothes. i wouldnt worry about how long they stay in the clothes sizes because they all grow differently. btw my son is now 10 and is wearing size 12 slim clothes!

My 12mo. old is about that same size. Luckily I was able to try on my other son's old clothes 12 & 18 mo. but at one year their height and weight kind of level off so I would defiantly not buy 24 mo. clothes. It's nothing like the first year of rapid growth.

personally i'd do 18 and 24 months for this winter for your son...bigger is always preferable to smaller. the main things for me are pants and a coat, since shirts can be big and if you get versatile shirts like t-shirts, he can grow into them as it gets warmer if need be. good luck!

It really depends on the child. He might be okay in 12M for a few more weeks, or he may need an 18M by next week--just depends on when those growth spurts hit! :-)
Also, different brands don't tend to be exactly the same in size, so the size 12M of one brand might fit longer than the 12M of another brand. No need to replace clothes that still fit and are appropriate for the current weather!
I usually just buy clothes as the kids need them for weather changes and/or as they outgrow things. Not a whole wardrobe at a time, just a new pair of pants when my child outgrows one, or a couple of new shirts when the weather gets cooler and they need long sleeves.
They go through clothes so fast, especially as infants/toddlers, that I've found some things won't get worn more than once (and sometimes, not at all) if you buy too much at a time.
I'd suggest buying a few things in 18M that he will be using very soon, such as a long-sleeved shirt or two, a fall jacket, and a pair of warmer pants, plus maybe a couple of sleepers for cooler nights. Layer with things he already has until the weather gets colder and/or until he needs a bigger size, and just continue to buy a little at a time as needed. That way, whether he stays in the same size or has another growth spurt, you won't have a ton of unworn clothes to sort through and replace once winter hits.
HTH! Good luck!

I have 2 kids and always am buying clothes for them I have a large pile for them stored up and it always works for me to buy 1-2 sizes bigger than their age. They are some brands out there that I have to buy bigger because they shrink in the wash, also if you use low heat in the dryer they won't shrink much.THe height and weight isn't always accurate so to be sure try them on to small take them back

My parents used to own a children's clothing store and the general rule of thumb is that the average child wears one size bigger than their age. If they are small for their age, they usually wear the same size as their age. HOWEVER, every brand is cut a little bit differently. Buy clothes with a little growing room so you get more wear out of it. You can usually get away with bigger shirts than pants. 18 months size is probably good for the fall and early winter and he may need some 24 mo. by the end of winter and definitly for spring. Just be careful not to buy too much so that you end up with unused clothes or pieces that have been worn only once.
