13 Month Old Hates Milk - Suggestions for Getting More Calcium?

My 13 month old is a very good eater. He eats just about everything under the sun but I can not get him to drink regular milk. I have warmed it, given it cold, mixed it with yogurt but he is just not interested. I need additional ideas to ensure he gets enough calcium each day. He loves cheese and yogurt but I feel like there is only so much cheese I can give this kiddo. Anyone in the same boat and if so, do you have any ideas on how to get more calcium into him? Thanks for your help.

My son won't take milk either!! He absolutely detests it! And you're right...he can only eat so much cheese and yogurt! Our pedi suggested OJ with calcium and our son LOVES it!! It has just as much calcium and he can't get enough. Hope this is helpful!!

My daughter only sometimes drinks her milk (though I have tried even chocolate and strawberry milk) and she isn't big on yogurt. She LOVES string cheese and cottage cheese, I can also get her to eat broccoli (which has lots of calcium) if it is covered in cheese.

I have dealt with the same issues. I know that you have had suggestions of orange juice, but I would suggest specifically Minute Maid kids. Look at the label. In every catagory it has as much, if not more nutrients than milk does.

Good Luck!

I know that many moms will throw a fit, but we got our kids to drink strawberry milk. We eventually weened them off the strawberry little by little

I have two suggestions:

1) Have you tried mixing Ovaltine with the milk? My first son would not drink milk and I tried everything. He loved it instantly. Also, in a new, fun cup is even better.

2) OJ with calcium. Just as much calcium as milk.

Good luck!

We have friends who experienced the same thing. If you really want him to drink milk, try Ovaltine. It won't hurt to try. We serve cow milk and goat milk in our house, so you can try goat milk for another option.

Humans are not supposed to consume the milk of other mammals; our bodies were simply not designed to do this. There are many other very excellent sources of calcium through other types of foods that are non-dairy. Good luck!

I have an almost 15 mo old daughter and she is drinking Similac 9-24 mo formula. I tried changing her to whole milk but had too many problems getting her to drink it and it was hard on her tummy for some reason. Hope that helps.

If he likes yogurt, try cottage cheese.....my 9 month old just can't get enough. My son enjoys it plain, but if your son resists it try it with berries or peaches. Also, if you son liked formula, why not give him a sippy cup of the follow up formula once a day to ensure some calcium and all the vitamins and iron?

My children are intolerant to milk so this was a concern at first. Then I learned that with all the milk our country pushes, we have the most calcium deficient country. Nuts, dark green leafy veggies, fish, beans, etc. all have great amounts of calcium. No need to worry; just add this things in his diet...
