Hi! My daughter just dropped her morning nap and that means our nursing schedule is changing too. I used to nurse her first thing in the morning, after her morning nap, after her afternoon nap and before bed. So now what do I do? I'm afraid that if I go to 3 nursings a day, I may start to dry up. I am starting to have thoughts about weaning but I just don't think either one of us are completely ready. Has anyone had this dilemma and if so, what did you do? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses. It's nice to get support from moms who have lived through it! We'll go to 3 nursings and go from there. Thanks again!

Relax just follow your daughter's cue. One less nursing a day will not dry you up you will produce less because of the decrease in demand but if she doesn't need/want that milk it's fine. When you and your daughter are ready to stop nursing you will. Might I suggest adding another comforting ritual (eg. reading, suggling, tummy touching time) to transition to when you both are ready. This really helped when I weaned all 3 of my kids. They weren't ready until they were 2 1/2 to 3 years.

Sounds like a natural progression of nursing a little less because she is taking in more solids. You will not dry up. Your body will adjust to HER needs.

It might just be that your daughter is signaling that she is ready to be weaned. Some children do it on their own. Follow her cues. You can offer the breast, but know that she might not take it. My best friends children were weaned around that time so it sounds completely normal.

I dropped off to morning and night feedings and kept my milk, I was nursing twins. The best way to wean is slowly, drop from 4 feedings a day to 3 feedings a day. She is eating more food now and doesn't need all that milk anyway. I went from nursing morning and night to just nursing at night and weaning and drying up was no problem. Your body should adjust to the change in feedings, breast milk is supply and demand. Don't stop breast feeding until you are ready, I almost did because I was getting harrassed at work, but when my boys were 15 months I and them were ready.
