14 Month Old Still Has No Teeth.

My hubby was the same way. He didn't get his first teeth until he was about 13 months old....so I thought my son might follow in his foot steps. My son got his first teeth around 10 months, so later than usual. According to my MIL, the dentist told her it's better that the teeth come in later, they will stay healthier longer :)

I would check with a pediatric dentist. Call and ask first and then take him in if they make that suggestion.

My mother was 2 YEARS OLD when she got her first tooth! No joke. My grandmother was starting to get extremely worried by that point. But I'll tell you this. My mom has always had super healthy teeth. Now at age 56, she has never in her entire life had a cavity! How many people can say that? My daughter got her first tooth on her first birthday - we were also starting to wonder if she would ever get teeth. She's 8 now and our biggest worry is how we're going to pay for all the orthodontics she's going to need on all these adult teeth she's growing!

So, try not to worry. You didn't get your first tooth until pretty late, so it's not like it doesn't run in the family, right? He will grow teeth. Any day now. =)

I like your last sentence about dentures. When I was concerned about my oldest son's slow-to-arrive teeth, his ped told me that the general guideline is that they'll have all of their teeth by age 3! So, I don't think they worry too much. However, my son did have some teeth at the time I posed the question. Teeth are very individual. My youngest son is 26 months and has far fewer teeth than most kids his age.

My daughter's first tooth appeared at 13 months. She has grown up with strong and beautiful teeth. Probably nothing to worry about.

My daughter was a year old and hadn't cut any teeth. She showed signs, sore gums, swelling, drooling, but nothing. She ate and chomped on everything, including raw carrots and jerky.
When she finally started getting teeth, it all happened pretty rapidly. And her little gums were tough from gumming things so much. Looking back, I guess it was better for her to do most of it all at one time as opposed to a tooth here and a tooth there. She has a beautiful set of healthy teeth and doesn't remember any of the discomfort.

You can always take your little one for x-rays, but my pediatrician said it wasn't all that abnormal to teethe late. He was right.

I wouldn't be concerned. Our son had his bottom two teeth and that was it until he was over 12 months old. They will come in when they are ready and I bet he will get lots of them at once, poor thing!

***Edited to add: I wouldn't bother calling a ped dentist. It will be an expensive visit and there's nothing they can do to bring the teeth in quicker. I googled this when my son's teeth were slow to come in and found that they used to (and some may still) cut the gums in the thought that the teeth will come through faster if they don't have to break through. I'd just wait it out.

The longer they wait, the stronger they'll be (hopefully!). My little guy cut 8 teeth in 2 weeks at 14 months. He'll be 7 next week and has only lost one baby tooth so far. Don't worry mama, the teeth will come.....and then.....LOOK OUT!

my Dr. told me to wait until 15 months and if they hadn't come in yet - he would send my daughter for x-rays. They came in 2 days before her appt.! LOL ~ He also said that he had never seen a baby that had no teeth and not to worry......you should be fine! Just be prepared, when my daughters teeth did come in, they came in 6 at a time. In 5 months time she has gotten 12 teeth.....OUCH!!

Personally I would run to a dentist and get x-rays done. There could be something impeding them coming in.

Babies can get teeth anytime. I wouldn't worry about it. My OB said he delivered a baby with teeth once and he has had them not coming in for the first two years. "Average" anything is because some are before and some are after. The saying goes that the later the teeth come in, the healthier they will be. This is a BLESSING! **Just be sure you are cleaning the gums like you would brush teeth. Use a very soft tooth brush or a washcloth on gums, tongue, roof, and inside cheeks twice a day at least.**

i wouldn't worry too much. i heard that the later the teeth come in, the stronger and healthier they are. of course, ask your pediatrician to get a medical opinion but i assume if the dr hasn't been concerned at all the well baby visits, its nothing to be too concerned about.

Teething is a huge variable for kids, just like walking... My first walked at 14 months, my second at 8 months. Anyway, it is not important to any developmental anything. I think it is great that he has no teeth. That way he will loose his teeth later and grow in his permanent teeth later, which will give him more time to develop healthy dental hygiene habits and the coordination to brush and floss his teeth well.

Go to the dentist. They'll be able to give you a timeline/ ease your fears or figure out what's wrong.
