Hi Ladies,

My 14 month old seems to throw up 2+ times a night. This started to occur last Thursday night. He is perfectly fine during the day. We are still nursing at night. Interesting enough i was not home saturday night and he did not throw up. I have not changed anything in my diet since last thrusday. I do not drink a lot of milk. I usually have the regular servings of dairy per day. Any suggestions are very welcomed.

Thanks again
J.

I have a 13 month old. At around 11 months he started vomiting at night. Sometimes it was within a couple of hours of him going to sleep. I took him to the doctor and his pediatrician suggested reflux, which my husband and I thought was strange for it to start at this age. We started Zantac. He did stop vomiting, but still woke upset, which bothered us. At his 12 month appt., we discussed again and the doctor suggested Prevacid, which was a tablet he chewed once a day. That very night, he slept 11 hrs straight, the way he used to. He has ever since. Just a thought. Good luck!

He may have a stomach bug. My kids both will tend to puke more at night and even more likely when still nursing them. My daughter threw up only at night for a week straight with one night of no vomiting last year and my son did a similar thing but only vomited when I would nurse him at night. I wonder if it is the same type of bug. I would watch him and if it continues for longer than a week, I would take him to the ped for sure or sooner if you have any concerns, you could give them a call today. It could also be reflux. Or an allergy to a food or even something like celiac as a pp mentioned, but it also could be a stomach bug or even a mild cold. My son does that occasionally as well with a cold.

My boys haven't been infants in years so I don't recall this time period well. Only nursing? Maybe has a gas bubble and not truly vomitting?

My family has been hit with an odd after-dark stomach virus too! My husband, my 5 year old and my 3 year old are fine through out the day, then begin feeling stomach cramps around the time the sun is going down, then they get worse and throw up and wail in agony until morning--at which point, it goes away again. I know this sounds absolutely insane, but my five year old has had it for 9 days and it's the same each day! He's even had a few days where he didn't throw up at all and we were positive he was over it. The strange characteristics of this virus causes one to think it's passed and that it's okay to eat and drink again. And so it seems, until after dark. I just hope it goes away soon. It would appear that their food hasn't been digesting at all.

Hi J., I am sorry you are going through this. I just wanted to write in and say that my family just had the most odd stomach virus run through us. My kids each had it, and it was not your typical 24 hour bug, They would throw up at night in their beds, and be fine for another day or two and then wake up vomiting again. At first I thought my daughter might have had some kind of reaction to something, until my other kids caught it. Keep an eye, and if the vomiting goes away in another day or two my bet is on a virus. Good luck :)

this happened with my daughter. right after i weaned her, she start to throw up nearly every night. horrible, nasty, projectile, sulpher smelling vomit. It went on for months and months. we had her in the hospital doing barium treatments and getting scans and poked and prodded and on tons of different medications and nothing ever worked. it eventually stopped, but she was still a very thin and sickly looking child. Fast forward to age 3, and we find out by accident that she has celiac disease. We go gluten free, and she flourishes. if she eats any gluten now, its right back to that. throwing up nasty vomit all night. its worth a shot. its really hard to diagnose before the age of 2, but you may want to ask the doc to try anyway and even try going gluten free for a month and see if it makes a difference.
