Sorry to tell you, but it doesn't stop! My son is 23 months old and has climbed on top of the table, on chairs, coffee table, etc. The one good thing is, he hasn't figured out how to climb out of his crib....yet.....
Today I got a call from my husband who is a stay at home dad and he tells me our son Carter was sitting on top of the changing table! He climbed up there and apparently has done it more than once because he gets up there FAST! What should I do? Im worried it will fall on top of him (not that it is very heavy) and I hate to bolt it down. What do you do about a climber that can get anywhere?

We had that problem with each of our four children. Strapping everything down is important. Also, whenever we caught them climbing up we made them climb down (rather than picking them up and putting them down). This made sure that they could get down from where ever they got up and also made the game of climbing up on top of things alot less fun.
It only gets worse when you have one that likes to explore. You just have to watch them and childproof the best you can.
It only gets worse!! I have 3 year old twin boys. Bolt!!!! Bolt!!!! Use the furniture straps and make sure to secure everything. It may seem like a pain, but it may just save your son from getting really hurt. The climbing and jumping off will not stop. Is he climbing out of the crib? If he is, it is time for a toddler bed. Make sure your house is completely baby proof. If he climbs the kitchen counter, can he get to the knives etc... Check around and baby proof away!!!!

My oldest son who is now 3 climbed on EVERYTHING. I was amazed daily at his bravery and skill. I took a bit of a different approach than most. While he is not allowed to climb on furniture, etc., I realized that I needed to embrace this dare devil nature. I take him to safe places to climb so that he learns to do it well. I know I can't stop/protect him when I am not around, so I want him to be good at it. He is a great little gymnist. I know it sounds crazy, but he is really very coordinated. Hang in there. Build as safe environment you can, but also help him develop these skills. You don't know what he might do with it one day.
Good luck!
get that boy in gymnastics!! Lol or go to a park and let him get down and dirty and climb all over those dusty playgrounds then go home and hose him off lol it does my 14 month old good
I am such an advocate of childproofing EVERYTHING!! I have gates in places that I dont want the kids (mainly the kitchen) and furniture straps of everything else. It really only takes one time for something to fall on him! Check your enertainment center, book shelves, dressers, everything!! He will climb, there is not much you can do to prevent it. Should you allow it? No, every time he does it, correct him etc., but he will do it again. My other advice is to provide him with things that are safe to climb. We have childrens IKEA tables, and I surrendered with those, or we have also had those little tykes slides, and those are great too. Go to the park, or playplaces often..that energy and drive has to have somewhere to go, EVERYDAY! Best of luck, you have only just begun the fun of a curious boy!! ~A.~
