How long does your 17 month child nap? and what time of day? For the longest time, my little boy has taken a nap at 10:30am.. and he sleeps for 1 and a half hours on average... he wakes up at 7:30am. Now I am trying to move his nap later, because he has just started mother's day out... but the later I move it the LESS he sleeps and he wakes up crying.... I also have just started putting him in his crib after a book and a song and letting him cry until he falls asleep for naptime... it usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, not bad. I am wondering if he is waking up and can't get himself back to sleep? Or if I should move it later to like 1pm? or just stick with the 10:30 nap three days a week and nap later on Tues/Thurs.... it seems like now that I have changed it up, all heck is breaking loose.. with a lot of 45 min naps... no good. Any ideas?? Thanks!!!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of your input!! I have decided to pick a time and to be consistent! I am going to feed him an earlier lunch and then put him down for a nap around 12:30 or 1:00.... It probably will just take some time for him to get used to it like you all said. :)

My 17 month old sleeps from 12-2pm, after lunch at 11:30am. She WAS doing 10am and 3pm, but since the time change, she's down to one good afternoon nap.

Whatever you decide, you have to gradually work into it. Most kids don't like their routine upset, so give him some time to adjust and be consistent with whatever works best for him. Good luck!

I always did my kids naps at 1 pm, after lunch and their tummy's were full and they would sleep about 2 hrs. Since you already had him on a different schedule it may take a little bit for him to adapt to this new one. What time is his MDO? My daughter goes from 9 - 2:30 and they take naps there. So I didn't know if he went all day or just a half a day. It will all work out you just need to find what works best for your little man.

Good Luck!

I am probably not who you'd want to follow, but here's what we do. At MDO, I think he naps around 12 or 12:30. At home, I put him down when I think he is sleepy. That could be anytime between 1:30 and 3:00. Even if he sleeps until 5:00, he still goes down for the night by 8:30 without any problem. This has been working for us for many months, even though some would say its too flexible. Good luck to you!!
