My 18 month old little girl, has been jumping out of her crip. I don't think I am ready to move her to a toddler bed yet. I think she is too young.
Any suggestions.

Children so often don't take our wishes into consideration when they start doing something. Obviously, your little girl is ready for either a toddler bed, or something is scaring her about being in her crib at night. Our little boy suffered from night terrors and we found out he was afraid of robots and monsters (we had to start monitoring the cartoons we allowed him to watch), so I gave him a stuffed dinosaur and convinced him that dinosaurs ate robots and monsters. It took a while, but he no longer suffers from night terrors. You can casually talk to your daughter and see what , if anything, scares her. If she doesn't have any fears, bite the bullet and get her a youth bed. You can get them with or without rails.

My daughter was 14months old when we transitioned my daughter to a toddler bed for the same reason. I considerd using one of those nets, but couldn't find one that fit our crib. The doctor said it was too dangerous to leave her in the crib if she was jumping out. So she suggested I baby proof the room, clear out anything she could get hurt on, get a toddler bed, and an extra tall gate at the door. We did this and it took 3 nites and then she was in a toddler bed!!!

Hi J.,
I thought about it for awile and thought well, if she can jump out of her crib then maybe she is ready to explore her room without feeling enclosed. I suggest a bed with a railing you can by the railing seprate. It wont hurt to try it safer then her jumping out if the crib. Good Luck

Crib tent!! I know a few toddler's your daughter's age that have them. I think (& my friend's pediatician agreed) that she is too young for a toddler bed. The toddler bed would give her wayyyy too much freedom for her age. Babies R Us does carry the crib tents. Good luck!

If she can jump out, she is ready to be out, if not she can get hurt. My son used to jump out on the dresser and down the dresser! It is time!

CRIB TENTS are awesome!! I had to get them around 16 months for my twin boys. It isn't necessarily true that if they are climbing out that they are ready for a regular bed. It just means they are adept at climbing.

I sold the concept to my kids as I bought this brand new tent for their bed and it was so cool. They loved it & it provided me the security I needed to get some sleep.

If she's getting out, it's time to switch. She could get seriously hurt climbing or jumping out. It will be an adjustment in the new bed and a lot of putting her back in. But that hassle is better than an injury. We put my daughter in a toddler bed for the same reason. It took her about a week to get the hang of staying in bed. One night we found her asleep in the door way. We had the little guard rail so she wouldn't roll out while sleeping but could safely get out.

If she's jumping out, you are better off with a toddler bed with side rails than risking her getting hurt while trying to get out of the crib. There is no way to keep her in it beyond tying her down which isn't an option. Our son was about 14 months when he started doing it and I removed the front rail from his crib and bought a bed rail...by the time he was about 20 months he broke the bed rail and started sleeping without it. We finally put a bed in his room when he was about 2 1/2.

Hi J.,

Wow, so she has figured out how to climb out of her crib!! she is quite the little acrobat. I have seen a product where you put it over the crib.. I can't recall where but its suppose to prevent them from climbing out.. It might be in one of those free monthly parent magazines.. I have a 3 year old, 20 month old and 2 month old.. the two latter ones did not figure how to climb out of their cribs.. I shall see about this last one. I did put the 3 year old in a toddler bed when she was 2 years old because of the new infant.. she did great.. she loved her bed!

I know they sell crib tents for that purpose. I have these padded floor puzzle pads around my son's crib, just waiting for the day he decides he wants to climb out. :) I also have a large pillow around the bottom corner of his dresser since it is close to the crib. But if he ever does try climbing out, I think we'll end up getting the tent and trying it out before going to a big boy bed.
