Hello Mamas! My daughter's 18th birthday is coming up very soon and I'm still indecisive of how to celebrate her important day. I’m pretty sure she would love to have as many of her friends from school and work celebrate with her, but she knows a lot of people. Do you know of any cool affordable places to celebrate her special day? I’m hoping to find something in Allen or McKinney/Plano/Frisco area? I was thinking of a restaurant with (teen?)music and buffet-style or finger food. Any ideas are much appreciated. TIA.

What can I do next?

Does she like to play putt putt or golf? My son would regularly go to the Golf Practice T to practice golf late at night and there is a putt putt there. When he turned 18 we put the word out for all his friends to show up to play a round and have cake and ice cream. Then we told his buddy to call him and convince him to go hit a few. Just after midnight on his 18th birthday he showed up with his buddy and was shocked at all the kids and family waiting for him. It was a lot of fun and not a lot of money.

Ghengis Grill is always fun. You can get all you can eat and make your own bowls! The one at 75 and eldorado has a neat atmosphere, esp on the weekend.

The brand new Frisco Athletic Center has a place called "The Zone" that you can rent out. It has bean bag chairs, pool tables, tv's, music, ping pong, etc. It's a very large area and you can bring in your own food, or just do pizza. Also, "Third Base" Restaurant by Stonebriar Mall, and "Jerseyvilles" by Willow Bend Mall both have large private rooms. Also, "The Zone" in McKinney has packages for groups, and corporate gatherings. They do Guitar Hero tournaments which might be fun. Good luck! J.

I don't know what your budget is for this party. We have parties fairly often with DJ and etc for our daughter (13) and her friends.

A lot of hotels and public golf courses will rent out an event room for you. Sometimes there is a minimum food purchase which is easy to meet if you have several guests. We attend a private golf club and that is the route we always take.

If you go the hotel/golf course route, the hotel or course can provide the appetizers, drink, etc. You can decorate and provide music. A GOOD DJ will run you around $1500. As for food, the biggest hit was mini pizzas, veggie and fruit trays, chocolate fountain with things to dip and make your own sundae.

Now, this past weekend our daughter had about 25 teens to our home for a halloween party. We thought about a DJ but we ended up buying a Bose speaker from Best Buy (around $300) that she can dock her Ipod or Iphone on. That worked GREAT and the music was perfect for them for the entire party. Several of the other teens here had Ipods and/or Iphones and they took turns with the music they each had downloaded.

The food we used at our home party were the veggie and fruit trays, lots of sliced apples with caramel dip, and pizzas.

At first we were skeptical about the Bose but the customer service rep at Best Buy told us without a doubt it would be a hit and we consider that we already got our money's worth out of it. It will be used a lot around here!

Have fun with 18! This ia a huge one. I am busy planning the 14th in December!!

Hi E.,

Not sure what her theme is, but we host many birthday parties for young ladies. I have a tea room in McKinney, Alice's Tea Shoppe. It's very relaxed and we work with the birthday girl on her theme, menu, as well as the budget. Many young ladies are enjoying the "tea parties", and we usually have some kind of craft or whatever they would like to do for fun. We also have boas and hats so they can have fun while they drink tea. Since we also have two rooms, they are welcome to come in and decorate, and set up their own music. We also make specialty cakes. The average tea party (3 sandwiches, 2 scones and 2 teas (or their beverage of choice), runs about $15.95 per person. We can also set up a buffet of her favorite foods.
