Take the weight with a grain of salt. My doctor tried to tell me I was going to be having a baby over 8 pounds. I told him there was no way... My little man ended up being 6 lbs. 5 oz. And that was a week past my due date!!!

I tried every suggestion I found online (except castor oil). None of them worked...bummer! As annoying as this sounds, it is true...baby will come when baby is ready. Hang in there mama!!! I know how it feels to be sooooo DONE with beig pregnant!

i hear the weight of the baby is one thing that triggers labor which is why they want you on bed rest if you are showing signs of premature labor or carrying twins. I think this is why walking helps. So stay on your feet, do some walking. I'm in the same boat right now; hoping to bring on labor early so I don't have another 9 lbs baby! I'm also trying for VBAC. I'm going to try the sex thing and the walking thing, but who knows if any of it does any good. Also, don't concern yourself with estimated size of baby. They have no way of knowing that accurately. just really watch your diet- no empty calories!

I'm going with the others...chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture. I also drank tons of Raspberry Leaf tea towards the end. It's supposed to help stimulate contractions and prepare your uterus for delivery. I was having lots of contractions for 2 weeks before I delivered. So, I credit the tea for that. My labor & delivery were fast too.

baby's weight is only an estimate. the best thing is to be patient. however, having three little ones myself, I get the need to feel in control and also all the reasons to want to move things along. here are the things i did to expedite true labor. bouncing on a fitness ball really gets the baby down into your pelvis, it also feels really good and sitting on the ball is more comfortable than any chair when you're so far along. that said, the ball must be properly inflated, not too soft, and you must feel stable on it so use it against a wall to get accustomed to it. clean the floor on your hands and knees. you won't be able to do this again for some time, maybe years, so take advantage of the moment and really scrub that floor. vacuum everything: the stairs, the inside of the sofa, the baseboard, the tops of the doorframes, the ceiling fixtures. find every possible reason to walk up and down the stairs (use the handrail). use the breast pump. nipple stimulation is a powerful labor inducer. after all that nipple pulling, have a warm bath with lavender oil (that's how I got baby 2 into labor). all that ball bouncing can get the baby so far down that it is hard to have a bowel movement. give yourself an enema. you can get a kit at any drugstore. sounds really yucky but honestly it isn't so bad. and if you have to go, it does the trick and can also kick you right into full labor (that's how I got baby 3 going).

Walk. A lot.
Also, go get a pedicure. There are pressure points on the insides of your feet that can produce labor.

So why don't you just have a me day? Get a pedicure, go shopping (to walk) and relax?

So much good luck to you.

P.S. I was 3cm 80% 3 wks before with my first, he was 2 days late. With my second, I was the same measurement at the same time, but he was 2 weeks early. I think it depends on the baby. But I know walking did increase contractions for me, so there you go. :)

Oh, dear. Please remember that those ultrasound estimates are just that: Estimates. They told me my daughter would be 9 lbs and she was only 8. Seriously, those things are really, really inaccurate. They can be off by as much as a whole pound! Don't let that give yourself doubt.

I tried everything in my power to induce labor with my second child, to no avail and had to be induced at 41 weeks, 2 days.

Walking is excellent for getting your body in shape for labor. Some says it brings on labor as well. Plus, you want your baby to bake as long as possible so ask your doctor if it is ok to start trying labor-inducing tricks...but really unless YOUR body is ready to go into labor NONE of them will work.

When your baby is ready, it's ready. No amount of inducing will change that, which is why so many drug inductions lead to c-sections for "FTP" - failure to progress....because the body was not ready.

Your baby will not be 10 pounds. I've had friends who were told their babies would be too big and they needed a c-section, a few did it and low and behold their HUGE babies were only 6 pounds. Ultrasounds are not perfect in any way. They are NOT an exact science.

I delivered, unassisted at home, my 10 pound 4 oz baby (who was 4.5 WEEKS late) and he was probably the fastest birth I've had. Intense, but fast. No tearing and was back at work 4 days later with him in hand.

I've gotten adjusted by my chiropractor during all of my pregnancies and especially in labor, as it's sped things up for me. I have a friend who had 18 hour labors with 3 of her kids. After being adjusted during her entire 4th pregnancy and the night before she went into labor, her labor was 4 hours....from first contraction to birth.

Chiropractic, accupuncture, sex (for prostaglandins from the semen)....

First off, the ultrasounds can be off by quite a bit. So many women are told they're having a ten pounder and they end up with a six or seven pounder. And then labor is inhibited because mom is scared of having a "big" baby (which MOST women are perfectly capable of pushing out, by the way) and the fear causes them to be tense and that leads to more pain, which leads to more drugs and the more drugs that are used raises the risk of a cesarean birth. Forget what the ultrasound found and just birth your baby as normally as you can.
Natural induction techniques are only labor encouragement and they don't work unless your body and baby are ready. Try to relax (I know, easier said than done) and let baby come when he's ready!

have sex~ My dr was going to induce me and I begged him not too.. What 100% worked for me was-my doctor broke my mucus plug and told me to go home and have sex.. Sex was very uncomfortable but the semen has something to do with it (not to be graphic) 3 hours later, I was in labor... Ask your doctor to break your mucus plug.. Good luck~

I tried everything with both my kids and nothing worked. My son was a week late and finally I had to be induced. A few of my friends, however, swore that after they had sex they went into labor. If you ask your doctor to induce, will she do it? My doctor was willing to induce me even a week early, but I don't like to mess with nature, so I wouldn't do it. Once my son was a week late, however, I was willing to do it and good thing I did because he was 8lb 13oz...not fun!

It takes a LOT of nipple stimulation to produce enough endogenous (produced by your own body) oxytocin the induce labor.

Babies come when they're ready. My sister is also 100% effaced and 1 cm dilated at 39 weeks. She's miserable since this baby is laying differently (and she had her first at 37.5 weeks).

All the research I did showed that walking was the most effective way to induce labor. But, it's not clinically proven. If it were, doctors would have a better idea of when babies would come.

The OB won't let your child get to 10 lbs. They will induce you before then. Babies over 9 lbs put the mother at a lot of risk - not that it doesn't happen, but OB/GYN's should be monitoring you to make sure you don't get to that point.

Good luck. I had to be induced with my 2nd because my water had broken and contractions hadn't started. I had been deathly afraid of the pitocin, and it wasn't as bad as the natural induction with my first.

Just wait, your baby when come out when he/she is ready. I tried everything; squats, spice food, intercourse, nipple stimulation, etc. Nothing worked my second son was born the day after his due date and the day before our scheduled induction.

Have you asked them to strip your membranes? It didn't work for my first, but worked like a charm with my youngest. He was here 24 hours later!

It's not super comfortable but seemed to work for me!

Not sure how you know the exact weight of your baby (docs can, to the best of my knowledge, only estimate)... but if he/she IS 8 lbs... they're not going to gain 2 lbs in a week. If you have a 10lb baby next week, they were 9.x lbs this week. It really isn't the weight that's important, anyway. It's the measurement of their head v the *interior* measurement of you. My son was 10lbs, and he was an easy baby to birth, as were my cousins who fall in the 10-14lb weights. Once the head has been taken care of, the rest is easy (unless they've got unusually large shoulders... which is rare). Those are fairly easy measurements to take in modern medicine.

My family does the "have sex and then go mow the lawn" trick.

I wasn't allowed to (high risk for the placenta ripping away from the wall... but we'd known that since 11 weeks)... but being pregnant during the summer, I sure was tempted to. I was also having sex 5 or 6 times a day. Didn't help. Kiddo was conceived when he wanted to be (condoms + spermacide + the pill), and born when he wanted to be.

Sometimes I think the "I'm FLIPPIN DONE already" is actually a biological response to combat fear. AKA you know you're close when you're actually contemplating the ridiculous. Like someone squeezing you like toothpaste! ;)

Not to be crude...but there is something in the man's semen that helps induce. This is why people will tell you to have sex. I still am a big believer in a ton of walking and squats. The is a labor inducing salad recipe online... my sister went into labor after eating...she may have been ready though anyway :) Don't worry the baby will be here before you know it...congrats :)

I know some health food store sell a few things you can drink...I was hesitant to try these. I've heard mixed things. Walking is suppose to be a wise tale. But I walked a lot in the end. My Dr said the one sure way to help get things going is sex. The act of it alone helps soften the cervics, and the semen is suppose to be helpful as well. Also there are pressure points that are can help induce labor. You can find lots of them on the internet. I would go to one of the little massage places popping up all over. You can get an hr massage for $20. I would tell them where to rub the hardest....back of feet, legs, and back. Thats how I got the second moving, and my delivery was very quick! Good Luck:)

they told me my son would be ten pounds by his due date. i had pre-eclampsia, so i had to be induced for that 10 days ago. (at which time they said he would have been about 9lbs) and he came out 7lbs9oz. i tried the evening primose oil, nipple stimulation, bouncing on yoga ball, walking...nothing worked for me. hope something does for you...
