What are some neat things that your little boy has received for his first birthday? My little guy has two older siblings (brother who just turned 4 and sister who is 6 1/2) and really doesn't need anything. I know he'll never know or remember, but I will. What did you get to make his 1st birthday special? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Well my parents were visiting us overseas at the time. The Tigers had done well in 1983, so my mom bought my oldest a Tiger uniform. And he got 'walking' shoes (the kind of shoes that help a toddler learn to walk in).

I'd have to go through the baby books and see what the other two got for their firsts.

I have to second both the Ball pit (which I'm sure the older kids would like too) and the Ball popper. My daughter got both and see loves them.

Both of my kids got saving bonds for their first birthdays. I also asked for gift certificates to clothes stores, so when they needed clothes I could go buy them. When I did buy them, I would always send a picture of them with another little thank you note. 1 year olds don't really remember the party and gifts, so like another mom said get them somthing they can use down the line. Another thing I like to do for gifts is get "diappearing" gifts. Things like, soap, lotions, toothpaste, bubble bath, snacks, all this stuff will disappear when used:) It is kind of fun filling a "grab" bag of stuff. And of course, get a smash cake for your little man :)

No kid thinks they have enough toys.... and you'll want to add this one to your living room:
"The Playskool Busy Ball Popper."
http://www.nextag.com/hasbro-playskool-busy-ball-popper/p...

My twins are 15 months and have loved to play with this toy every day for months. (they too have an older brother, 2 1/2, so we thought we had enough toys)
No, really... This was one of those gifts that was a hit from the minute we opened the box.
It is shockingly addicting for my twins. I guess balls that bounce up and down to a cute music tune, and swoop around and pop back up is a hit... over and over again.
First the kids would just stare in shock... then they start to laugh.. and then they learned to grab for the balls. and now they giggle and laugh. Sometimes they are just beside themselves in joy while knocking the toy over so they can crawl after the balls that get away. you are right, they won't remember it.... but I will... and I made a few video clips to capture the moment.

Something he will keep like a special book (we like to get one or two each year and write in them--a children's poetry collection or something that meant a lot to me and my husband when we were kids).

My Uncle is a very talented craftsman. He has been making our family keepsakes for years. He has a website: http://www.treetobox.com/
The craftsmanship is well worth the prices- all hand made. My kids have a set of blocks and a train that he made. They LOVE them!!! Best of luck and congratulations!

We went to OneShare.com and purchased one share of Disney stock for our son's first birthday. We had the certificate framed and a little plaque with a message for him included. It was a little pricey, but not any more than we might have spent on toys he didn't really need. Good luck!

We bought my daughter her own chair and ottoman set. it was about $100. We thought about something, that we wanted her to have, that she could use for several year. We also figured that the first b-day and xmas they won't remember, and won't care, so we got just the one thing for her. It's just thinking in advance what do you think he might like to use for years that might be a touch more, so you can do just one gift, and they will use for years. My daughter just turned 2, and LOVES her chair. She will be able to use it until about 5 or 6, so it was $100 well spent.

For my son's first b-day, my sister bought him a blow up firetruck ball pit! It was huge...but awesome! He loved it! He could crawl inside and play in all the balls...I am pretty sure she bought it at Toys R Us.

I think the preasent my son like the most was the 4-wheeler we got him. It has a rechargable battery and doesnt go very fast. You push a button on the handle bar to get it to go and he learned how to ride it within 10 min. It was 80 bucks, and let me tell ya the best 80 bucks we could spend on a toy. We mostly buy toys from garage sales, or if they are on sale at a store because kids dont play with them to long and he dont need a lot. But this was a great investment. He is 2 1/2 now and got a bigger one for chistmas from grandma and grandpa but he still rides this one also. He would spend the entire time outside riding that thing. His birthday will be special no matter what though. Have fun!

When my son turned one last year, he also had a brother who had just turned 4 and a sister who had just turned 6!! We got him the ball popper a couple others mentioned which he loves. Since we didn't need any more toys in our house, I had his brother and sister pick out one of their toys that they were too old for now and wrap up for him. They were so excited and put lots of thought into figuring out what they wanted to give him. I also want to mention the PlasmaCar. It is about $65 - check it out on Amazon. It says it is for ages 3 and up. However, my son's playgroup had a gym full of them one day and any child over the age of 1 was in Heaven!! It was so cute to see a room full of 12 month to 30 month olds riding these around - we couldn't get them off them! I would highly recommend it - even for his first birthday. It also got the Outdoor Toy Award for 2006.
