Hi I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a first birthday party around christmas. I was thinking a christmas theme but then does it take away from teh 1st birthday. do you even do a big party if so what type of place that can entertain adults and kids. My home is to small to do a big party. Is it better to keep it simple with just a few relatives? I'm very confused and any ideas and or advice would be great.
thanks

My son will be celebrating his first birthday near Christmas too. I'm not doing a Christmas theme for him, but I think it could be cute for a first birthday. After that I'd try to keep it separate from Christmas so they do feel like they are getting a real birthday celebration and not just an extra Christmas party with their name on a cake.

I think keeping it simple with just close family is best for a first birthday. For later birthdays a friend once told me to invite their age plus one in friends.

Hi L.,
I would just have it more simple with close friends and relatives at your house. My home is small too and for the first few years we have relatives over. Then as they get older we do something away from home with their friends and family.
I also think it's a cute idea to do a Christmas theme. I wouldn't do that every year but for the first time it's cute.
Have fun!

L.,
My daughter's birthday is 6 days before Christmas and last year for her first birthday I did a polka dot themed party for just the family about 2 weeks before Christmas. It worked out well because DD wasn't overwhelmed with lots of people; just ones she knew really well. This year we celebrated on her half birthday and that's something I plan on continuing at least until DD tells me she wants something different. On her actual birthday this year we'll do a small cake with just immediate family to mark the day but I wanted her to have a celebration that was separate from the Christmas holiday. Plus by spreading it out she gets gifts at different times of the year so she doesn't have to wait all year and it's easier on everyone else to buy at separate times and not try to think of two gifts in December. Good luck!

My daughters birthday is 6 days before Christmas we have always tried to seperate her birthday from Christmas as much as we could. We did this by having her party earlier in the month with mostly family, this seems to make it easier for people to attend. Then on her "real" birthday we keep it real simple like a cupcake with a candle just the immediate family. Last year for her 4th birthday she wanted a snow man theme birthday and it was such a hit she wants it again this year. This way it is more of a "winter theme" then Christmas.
