A small intimate celebration with family at home is all that should be needed for an infant's first birthday!

It is difficult to find a good location for a child that young. I certainly wouldn't want to go overboard/$$$ since he will not even remember it. However, something like a mommy & me would be great for the guests and their children. Hi highly recommend a Kindermusik birthday party. I teach Kindermusik, but not in Carrollton. Go to the website www.kindermusik.com and click on find a class. Enter your zip code and find a licensed Kindermusik educator near you and call her to see if she does birthday parties, most of us do. Most of the instructors I've met just charge a flat rate of $99 to facilitate a Kindermusik birthday party. Some will up the cost to include party favors like baby bells or egg shakers. Let me know if you need help finding a Kindermusik educator near you.

As a former nanny and former Gymboree instructor (and now a parenting coach), my recommendation for a 1-year-old's birthday party is to keep it simple: a small gathering at home with a few close family and friends and A TIME OF DAY WHEN YOUR CHILD IS WELL RESTED AND NOT HUNGRY! I estimate that 90% of 1-year-olds get very overwhelmed with all of the hubbub of their birthdays and don't 'get' that it's their day and that it's supposed to be fun: they all just cry instead. So please reconsider having a big party for your baby this year, and just keep it simple.
As I mentioned, I am a former Gymboree instructor, and 2 year olds like the parties quite a bit, especially if they go to Gymboree on a regular basis. Three and four year olds really love these parties, but one year olds just don't understand, especially if they do not attend Gymboree on a regular basis.

I am new to the area and don't have any ideas to aid you, but would love to know what other moms share with you. Our little one turns one on May 6th. Happy Birthday - enjoy!!

We just celebrated my son's first birthday this afternoon and had a blast! We scheduled it for 3pm at our house -- right after his afternoon nap (in fact, he was still asleep when guests started arriving). We had a bounce house in the backyard for his big sister and all the cousins, plus sidewalk chalk, giant coloring books and legos for the kids. The birthday boy spent a lot of time in grandparents' arms, and wasn't very interested in opening presents, so I opened most of the while he crawled off with a handful of colored tissue paper.

We've been to parties for older kids (3 & 4) at Gymboree, and they're a BLAST! The one in Lewisville by Babies R Us has fun equipment for toddlers/pre-toddlers.

In my experience, with both my kids and with friend's kids, one-year-olds get overwhelmed pretty easily. Just keep that in mind when you're planning. You can't really force them to open presents, or sit in a row with the other kids for a photo, or participate in group activites.

I have not heard anything about Gymboree for birthdays, but I do know they have super classes for toddlers. My son (2 1/2) has attended both thier music and activity classes, he loves they both - runs to the doors of the building when we arrive.
