My son is almost 10 months and I want to start planning for his 1st birthday. Unfortunatly he turns one on 12/29, which is already a hectic time of year. My husband's family live in Polk county and my family lives in Manatee county so we plan on throwing 2 parties for him so that no one is inconvenienced with making travel arrangements.

I'm seeking birthday party ideas as well as gift ideas also. Since he will have Christmas and his birthday back-to-back, I'd like to get him a range of gifts that will last him all year round. We also have some family members that need gift ideas for him too and the only thing I've told anyone was savings bonds but I think they'd rather buy him an actual gift... so I need some extra ideas to pass on to everyone else.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions!! :)

Well my husband and I went throught the same thing and you just need to take a minute to just sit down and let him do the talking. Believe it or not he will be able to tell you in his own way what he wants. Take him to Wal-Mart, KB toys, Toys R Us and let him play with what he would like. Then you should get him those and similar toys. Also plenty of books and puzzle toys, if you want them to last all year long. The more you feed his brain the more it will develop. As for the party... What does he like. My son became in love with Finding Nemo about a month and a half before his 1st and he also loves the water, swimming, taking a bath, ect. So my husband and I threw him an underwater/Nemo party. We had a kiddy pool and a slip-n-slide and a sprinkler. Then for the adult kids we had water balloons (His birthday is June 4th) and then my husband cooked ribs, hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and everyone had such a wonderful time. Listen to your son and the ideas will start flowing.

Good luck,
N. J

P.S. If you still need ideas send me a message and tell me what he likes and I will give you ideas on what to do.

I'm just going to suggest things my kids love and still play with. My kids are 18 months and 3. The Little People sets are great, especially the ones with animals, any baby einstein videos or products, they are great learning tools!!! Books, books and more books, you can never have enough. If you're really into the learning and toy thing, you can check out Discovery Toys...they're awesome and Usborne books. Otherwise you can't go wrong with cars, trucks, and balls.

These are the things my children really enjoy and don't seem to get bored with as there are a zillion toys on the market:) Hope this helps:)

Our oldest daughter's birthday is also right after Christmas. It was always hard to try and have a party right after the holidays because either everyone was busy with family stuff or broke! We started celebrating her birthday the last weekend of Jan every year. It has worked out wonderfully! On her birthday, we take her do dinner.....her choice of restaurant. We started at McDonald's and now since she is older , we go to more adult dinner places. On the last weekend of the month she has her party with friends and family. It has really been nice and much easier on us! My nephew's birthday is on Christmas day. His mother does the family thing on Christmas and then in the summer he has a birthday party!

if you have the room, an outdoor swing is great -the kind that hangs from a tree or a wooden stud. we have this toy that is a bus (sings wheels on the bus), has 4 people and other moving parts...this one is still a big hit in our house(mine are 15 mos & 3 1/2). a small hammering shapes bench, musical books, the biggest ball you can find, sandbox (messy, but fun),soft stacking blocks, a ride on/push toy, a wagon for you to pull him around in, characters from whatever movie he likes...mine love "toy story", and gift cards to toys r us are always a good one, this way you can go together and pick something out for a special treat sometimes.
