Hello moms,
I am planning my daughters 1st birthday party. I am looking for more of an orignial spot than the classics like Bubbles, Fantasty Kingdom. Ideally in the Bucktown area but open! Any ideas, thoughts suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.

Email ____@____.com (www.dayfrog.com)and get info about 1 year old parties. It is located at 233 East Erie in Chicago (right across from Northwestern Hospital)and it is a superb play place for kids--very well equipped, lots of room and things to do, and very well staffed. There is a play area for small tots.

There is a wonderful location in the South Loop on King Dr called A Room to Play. They have play equipment for all ages, newborn to 10 or so. They do parties of varying levels. Congrats on making it through the first year. It goes so fast!

I have heard good things on the NPN board about the Dairy Queen in Bucktown. Apparently they let you use the party room upstairs for free and the facility is nice and clean and the manager is very good to work with.

Gosh, I think of the first birthday party as being more of an adult party seeing as most 1 year olds don't have many friends yet. I had that one at home for both of my son's first birthdays. Both were late afternoon. If you don't want to do it at home how about an outdoor brunch like Chief O'Neills at 3471 North Elston. www.chiefoneillspub.com

The Dairy Queen on Damen has a great party room and they will help you cater food. No parking though...

Good luck!

Check out my website, www.kidwinks.com. We list over 100 birthday party places in the Chicagoland area in the Services section. Here's the link to the exact url: http://www.kidwinks.com/ForKids/KidsParty/.

If you become a member of kidwinks, which is free, you can sort these 100+ results in order of distance from your house.

Kidwinks.com is a resource for parents in the Chicago area looking for kid-friendly events, activities, restaurants, shops and services (like birthday party places!). In the restaurants section, you'll find our Kids Eat Free Calendar, where you can click on a day and get a list of restaurants offering kids' dining deals (like "kids eat free") for that day. Check it out!

Hope this helps,

J.

I had my daughter's first b-day at the Ukranaian Village Children's Art Center. It's on Damen Ave. near Augusta. The woman who runs it has party packages, but she let me just pay to rent out the space. In that case, I had to do all the footwork myself - setup, cleanup, bringing my own food and cake - but the space is super laid back and very functional for the zero to three years old set.

Good luck!
