most Christian bookstores have a section with good communion gifts; you can also google Abbey Press and take a look at their website if you want a religious-themed gift.....maybe even a veggie tales video? Personally, having had 2 kids go thru this, I would just treat it like you would a birthday gift and get her a toy or game she would really like. Kids seem to appreciate that sort of thing more!!
Check Things Remembered...online or in store. They have several appropriate items depending on her age. You can get something religious, or just something nice since she'll get other religious gifts. Everything is personalized which makes it extra special.
K.,
I think that a savings bond is the best gift. She will get tons of religious items.
That's my suggestion.

You didn't mention a budget but how about a personalize streling silver bracelet with a pretty cross hanging with the date of the first communion engraved , You can check Ideal or Gordeon , they usually have good deals . I hope this info can help you .
If she doesn't already have a child's bible, that's an idea. Hallmark probably has lots of little keepsakes that would work, too.

I haave purchased for many children that i know as well as adults a personalized rosary...they are so beautiful. the beads have the letters to spell the persons name and you get to pick the colors of the beads. If you are interested let me know and i will give you the persons email address and she can give you all the info. I believe they were under $20 and if you tell her you need it rushed she will send it quick, thats what she did for my sons baptism.
A special bound bible to the child! I still have mine and my grandmothers prayer book given to her around 75 years ago! God bless you's!

Check out personalizationmall.com I saw somethings on there that might wk for ya! Good luck :-)
K. - ask the parents if they have set up a 529 plan (college savings plan) for her and if it would be alright with them if you made a contribution to it in honor of her communion. She will get tons of religious gifts and none of them will help her pay for her education.
I got 4 bibles, and three necklaces with croses at my holy communion when I was 7 and that was 30 years ago!!!
If no 529 plan, then a savings bond is a very thoughtful suggestion!
Cheers,
C.
Try the gift shop at the church you be attending. There are so many "commemorative" items to choose from. Also, if you choose, a pretty bracelet (or any non-religious item that a young girl would cherish) a gift certificate to the movies or a restaurant to have lunch with mom...You have lots of options. Remember, it doesn't have to be a religious item. I presented the daughter of my childhood friend a pair of opal earrings at her first communion.
