This will be my husbands first Father's Day. Our little girl is 4 and a half months old. He did a great job for Mother's Day and got me a James Avery necklace that I wanted and took us to brunch. Any great ideas for Father's Day gifts? He says he doesn't want anything but I have to do something.

What can I do next?

When I asked my husband what he wanted for his first Father's Day, he was very honest. He said he wanted a six pack of beer and some time to watch the Cubs game by himself. We did spent a lot of time together and did a cookout for dinner, but he really appreciated the time to be a "guy" again, even if only for a few hours.

I make Stepping Stones every year with my boy's "paw" prints in them. Now that they are getting bigger, it is a challenge, but my husband and the kids love to look back at them.

I also took a snap shot of my husband holding our son (5 mo at the time) right after a bath... they were both shirtless and I made it black and white. I framed it with a poem on the other side.

Let me know if you want the poem :)

I put together a shadow box for my husband's first fathers day. I included the shirt he got at the hospital and some pictures plus a fathering book his dad had passed down to him. I hangs next to my son's room and he still points things out on it.

For my husband's first Father's Day (3 years ago) I bought him this crystal baseball (because he is a baseball fan) that had an engraving on it saying: First Father's Day 2008. When my husband woke up in the morning and went to the restroom I put the wrapped present into the baby's crib and handed the card to our son. When my husband came back I asked him to check on our son and when he did our son was sitting there waving the card around. My husband was very pleased. He now has the crystal baseball sitting on his desk at work. For his second Father's Day we took him out for a nice dinner and gave him a crystal flat glass picture with a picture of me and our son on it. It had engraving saying Happy Father's Day 2009. I got the the crystal baseball at an online specialty gift shop and the crystal picture at Epcot but I know Wal-Mart makes them too. I have also had special custom T-shirts with our children's pictures on them made at zazzle.com. If your husband has an office you might look into giving him something special that he can put in his office... like a really nice picture of your child or something else that reminds him of what a wonderful father he is. If he doesn't have and office maybe a shirt or something else that will show the world that he is a great father. Give him something that will remind him of your son and what a precious gift it is to be a father... something he can keep and look back on as "that was my first Father's Day gift... wow, that was so long ago but such a great memory."

For my husband's first Father's Day, I got him a silver photo frame and had it engraved "Daddy & Me". We still use it and can easily change the pix of him & our son doing various things together.

I also have a 4 month old little girl and I as well was needing something for my husband for his first Fathers Day. I found this on etsy.com http://www.etsy.com/listing/48615819/personalized-hand-st.... There are 4 different pictures of the different key chains she makes. I love the picture of the key chain that has saying (CHILD's NAME) LOVES DADDY and around the edge of the key chain it says HAPPY FATHERS DAY and the year. I am requesting Happy 1st Fathers Day 2010. I thought it would be a great gift that he will have with him every day.

My husband loves his coffee in the morning. When they are little you can create a coffee mug with a picture & when you get it use acrylic paint to put their footprint or hand print on it. You can stamp the card too as a keep sake.

I have also gotten a silver key chain locket inscribed with the kids names & We Love You and put a picture inside.

You could also get professional pictures of the two of them & have one framed...you could also have a picture created into art.

Good luck!

Think about what his hobbies are. For my boyfriends first father's day our little girl was 4 months, and we got him stuff he collects (vintage coke stuff. I got up early and put it all in the babies crib next to her, so when he went to check on her he saw it all), and i made our fav breakfast. Later that night we went to his favorite BBQ place. This year I am going to make one of those handprint plaster deals, and paint it, so he can take it to work, and of course dinner wherever he wants. Have Fun!

I would give him something associated with something he enjoyed before the demands of fatherhood. If he likes to golf, get him a day pass at a driving range, a new golf club or something that encourages him to spend some time on his interest. As much as he loves you and the new baby, he might appreciate something unrelated to his role as dad. There will enough time to give him pictures of you and the baby, and ties, and hand prints. And he will love them.

We didn't have much money on our 1st Fathers Day. I made a $5 dog tag out of the machine at Walmart with our sons name and birthdate on it. He still carries it as his keychain. It's a prized possession.

A copy of the book "The Giving Tree" (a real tearjerker) or Shell SIlverstiens "Where the Sidewalk Ends." (really funny) would be nice to add to another gift. They are great dad books for him to establish a tradition of reading to your kids. Add an inscription telling him all the reasons he's a great dad.

Then of course get him something he really wants! I'm getting mine 2 tickets to tour Cowboy Stadium. I thought it would a cool memory for him and my stepson.

We started a tradition the first year my daughter was born... I made a t-shirt for daddy (and grandpa). It included 3 pictures, two handprints from my daughter, and the year and a saying (Best Daddy in the whole world, I love my Daddy, etc.). He's gotten a t-shirt every year - this will be his 12th! Each year, when he receives a new one, he retires the old one (usually very worn by then).

3 pictures: printed on iron-on transfer paper, purchased anywhere.
2 handprints: original t-shirts had both from my oldest; then when my younger one came along, we did one from each child. When they were really young, we smeared a small amount of vaseline on their hands, to make for easy cleanup. Then cover the palm of the hand with fabric paint.
Year/Saying: written in fabric paint

Good luck!
