My 1st migraine happened 2 days ago out of the blue. I haven't felt right ever since. My doctor thinks it was the predisone that I was on. I only took 1 pill. I can't seem to get rid of this really weird headache. I was in her office for a wheezy cough so now I am on antibiotics. I am really scared. I have never had this happen before and can't figure out why. Has anyone else had this feeling when they had there first migraine? Did anyone gets tests done to make sure it wasn't anything else? If so how did you get them to.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had a normal day. got a little excited about getting a treadmill then it happened later. Hours after I got a bad chocking sensation in my tooth and it hasn't stopped ever since then. I see a dentist tomorrow so maybe the headache will go away afterwords. I don't like when new things happen to me it sets me back. I fight with anxiety I had it really bad for 2 months after my daughter passed away 5 years ago and now things frighten me easily like that. I am afraid it will happen again. It wasn't painful it was like another lady said she had was an eye migraine. Not sure b/c Dr won't see me her nurse just said she got them too. So after I get my tooth fixed and it doesn't go away I do I convince my dr to do something about it without me sounding like an idiot or something. (I feel like drs think I am faking it or something when I go see them.)

I had severe migraines for a few years toward the end of college and after I graduated. They would start with my vision looking "watery" around the edges, which would result in nauseau and I couldn't eat, stand or take any pills. I had to have my roommate drive me several times to the school health clinic for an injection of Imitrex.

I joined a study and charted when I got them (several times per month). I have since been able to control them and rarely have one (maybe once or twice per year). THese are the triggers I learned to avoid:

*Caffiene
*Being out in the sun for long periods at a time
*Birth Control pills
*Strong fragrances/perfumes

I imagine that a new medication could be a trigger as well as it changes things within your body. Just make sure to alert your doctor to any and all potential side effects so they can modify your medication if needed.

I wouldn't freak out just yet until it occurrs again. Migraines can make you feel really weird for days. I was often out of commission for 48 hours before I started to feel normal.

Dear K., Are you sure it was a migraine? A sinus headache could go on for days and make you feel weird too. If you have a wheezy cough, your lungs may be congested and less oxygen gets to your brain. Get a second opinion. Feel better.Grandma Mary

I officially had one migraine inmy life. I feel that I have them occassionaly though.

I was watching a rerun of ER on TNT during the day, just sitting there and suddenly I had a Kaleidoscope effect going on in my vision. I could only see around the edges, everything else was blurred out. You can say I freaked out, I was screaming at my husband that I was having a stroke or something. I was terrified! We went to the ER and the nurse told me I was lucky...I thought "Are you crazy" and she said if I had to get migraines that "Eye Migraines" are the best to have...It only effects the vison for a short time and their is no pain. I went to the Dean Megee Eye Institute in OKC and they checked me out. I was okay and I have never had another one that severe.

Migraines are very harsh. The effects do last a while. I have to go to a darker room and rest, stretching my neck muscles seems to help. Putting my hands in very warm water helps reduce the pain too, when an area is warmer than the rest the blood goes to the bigger veins there and it reduces the amount of pressure in your skull.

I had an MRI done, they found something small thank GOD. I have to go for my follow up soon. Just a vein a little larger, but the doctor thinks its just how the picture took. So I will be going next week. I would get it checked so what a little of your time and a lot of releaf. :)

I have had migrains for years and have found a great natural remedy. I take one feverfew pill a day and it has really worked well. I read about it extensively before taking and it seems that the side effects are really non-existent. You should consult your doctor and read up on it before taking anything...however, I bought it at Whole Foods and have been taking it for a year. Its been great. I have also supplemented with B-2 and B-12.

Good luck! -D.

I've had migraines on and off since puberty.

I have had MRI's done, but only after getting several headaches within a shorter period of time (and with different doc's).

If you're still feeling "weird" another call to your doctor might not hurt, but sometimes when mine are really severe, it does take me a couple of days to feel 100% again.

Good luck and feel better.

Hi K.,
I have suffered from migraine headaches since I was 10 or 11. My husband gets them and now my 11 year old son gets them. My migraine aura sometimes starts a day prior to the headache. I will feel fatique, general malaise, dazed, neck pain, strange right eye visual symptoms and irritability. The headache usually affects my right eye and the right side of my head. Sometimes I have a prodrome after the migraine in which I will just feel not myself for a day or so after the migraine. I do not get nauseaus. 2-3 times I have had migraine so bad that I couldn't tolerate it and I had to go to the ER. At the ER I had CT scans which were normal. Sometimes they treat migraine with IV Reglan and Benadryl. Some of my triggers have been identified as disturbed sleep, missed meals, perfume is a big one, pot pouri, hormones.

Recently I was diagnosed with Chronic daily migraine. Per my neurologist, I was not treating my migraines appropriately and at some point the migraine did not completely turn off. Every single day for over a year I had a migraine headache. I did not always have the actual headache, but I had the aura and prodrome symptoms everyday and the actual headache 2-3 times per week. It was a nightmare. I now feel great, I am being treated with a daily medication that has taken away the symptoms and reduced my migraine to aprox. one per month (pms).

Since your symptoms are new onset, If they don't resolve you might want to ask your MD to order a CT or MRI just to rule out any other possibility for the headache. Maybe your MD can order you one of the migraine rescue meds such as imitrex or zomig to help you get rid of the migraine symptoms that you are experiencing.

Best to you, I hope that you feel better soon and I hope that you never get a migraine again.

I get migraines often. I actually had a really bad one last night. It started with the floaters in my eyes and then progressed to losing some vision on one side, numbness in my hands and legs (all on the one side) and then comes the pain. It was really bad. The first time iot happened I thought I was having a stroke. Mine are hormone related mostly. They can also be triggered by stress, lack of sleep and BC pills. I have to be very careful what types of medications and BCP I take. Some people get them once others often. Mine can last for awhile and yes, it definately takes awhile for me to feel the same again. I wouldnt think it should take more than a few days though (from my experience). If you are still uneasy about the way you feel talk to your dr. or call a neurologist who specializes in this. Good luck, I hope you feel better.

I've had migraines regularly since I was in middle school. Mine are usually hormone related, but I can also get them due to strenuous exercise, certain foods, stress, and other factors.

Did you experience light sensitivity, nausea, or an aura with the migraine? (Those are some of the other symptoms that make a headache a migraine).

Sometimes it can take me a couple of days to shake the headache. You might want to go back to the doctor to have it checked out. I haven't had an MRI, because mine are textbook migraines. If your really concerned, see a neurologist. Good luck!

K. when you say you haven't felt right ever since what do you mean? Yes your usually off the first 48hrs after that your should be fine. If you are still experiencing a head-ache and in general don't feel well call your pcp or a neurologist and explain your symptoms. I had what I thought was a migraine for four-days finally after I couldn't take the pain anymore I called my neurologist who sent me to the nearest ER I was admitted immediately with Meningitis. I was in the hospital for a week and it was the most painful week of my life.

Hi K.:

Migraines can provoke different feelings within the body. What concerns me is that you are taking medication that may be producing this negative effect. And now you're on antibiotics, which has been known to negatively alter the digestive/intestinal systems, which can also cause migraines and other effects. If you strongly feel that something more intense may be going on, then explore resources to find out.

I encourage you to try safe and gentle methods to address whatever may be going on. There could be a number of reasons why migraines occur. As a Natural Healthcare Practitioner and having experienced migraines in the past, I have utilized natural wellness to take care of the issue.

Please feel free to consult with my office.

All the best,

I've had migraines since I was 11. While the majority of the really awful-make me want to puke-pain goes away within 6 to 8 hours, the lingering effects can sometimes last up to a week. For me, it lasts as a dull pain in my forehead and a sensitivity to bright light, loud noises, and sudden movements. I just have to take extra precautions to avoid my triggers during that time and also take ibuprofen constantly.
