2 1/2 Yr Old with Chipped Front Tooth

My son chipped his front tooth about a year ago. I didn't want him going through school with a chipped tooth so we took him to the dentist.

Our dentist was able to fix the tooth for pennies with the material used for fillings.

His tooth looks great still today, and has not discolored at all.

You need to take him to the dentist to get it checked out. My 2 year old face planted onto concrete the day after Thanksgiving 2.5 years ago. One of his front teeth is dead, the other front tooth is a little gray. It's better for him to keep the tooth, as long as it doesn't get infected or bother him, but he gets it checked out when he goes to the dentist every 6 months.

It may suck to have a son with a chipped front tooth, but it's just temporary since it's a baby tooth. There are worse things. :)

My daughter had a chipped front tooth also when she was younger. I took her to the dentist and he smoothed it around the edge so she would not cut her tongue or have problems with it. The tooth was fine and she lost it about a year later.

I work for a pediatric dentist. It is always best to go to a dentist after trauma. It may be nothing. I doubt you can get an x-ray on him but you can at least get a profession opinion. My son was about that same age when he fell into the fireplace. He didn't even chip his tooth, but when he was 6 and the teeth became loose ready for exfoliation, they abscessed. So you are always going to want to keep a close eye on them. Good Luck.

This happened to my daughter a few years ago. She was 2.5 yo and managed to trip and hit the one hard part of an overstuffed couch. We had a dentist look at the tooth and he said that we shouldn't worry about it. At worst it would die and be pushed out by the other tooth. Luckily, it never died and now, at almost 6, it is beginning to wiggle for her adult tooth to take over. Just take her to a dentist, it will make you feel better.
