2 Month Old with Gas

I was wondering if anyone gave their baby anything, she is on formula now and we tried a generic brand and she has so much gas with this brand. I didn't know if there were any natural herbs or anything that I would be able to give to her.

What can I do next?

Give her some Mylacon drops (or the generic version is fine). Don't mix it in with her formula, it could stick to the side of the bottle, squirt it directly into the side of her cheek then quickly blow into her face for a split second, that will cause her to swallow.

I would dampen my finger stick it in baking soda then swirl it the baby bottle of water before adding the formula.

I have a three month old who is VERY gassy. I have just recently started trying gripe water. It is a natural blend of herbs that is supposed to settle the stomache and gas issues. You can buy it online or in your natural/organic foods store. There are different brands that sell gripe water.
Hope that helps!

I would be VERY careful giving herbs to an infant. They aren't regulated and there is no "watch group" controllng the manufacturing, making of herbs. My oldest was very gassy and we found a book on infant massage and took an infant massage class from the hospital/ECFE and used the massage techniques for the tummy almost every day. If you do the techniques in the right order, you actully help push the gas bubbles through her tummy. We could feel the little bubbles moving (kind of weird at first, but then I realized that we were helping!) Your daughter might squirm a little at first, because it feels werid to her, but when they learn what you are doing, they really almost enjoy it. Good luck :)

My son had a horrible time with gas. We used Mylicon drops, the genaric ones, and I actually had very good luck with Target formula. It seemd to generate less gas than any of the other brands, I think we tried about 5 or 6 brands. We also had luck doing deep knee bends and bicycle with his little legs after feeding. Give it a little time so you make her spit up.

Good Luck!

Hylands has colic tablets that worked very well for my daughter. You can find them at Walgreens. They also have tablets for all kinds of other things, and I have found them very helpful. The teething tablets are a godsend!

My daughter was born 8.28.08 she also has gas. First check with your doctor but I've tried Mylicon drops get them at walmart or target it helps relieve gas. Second I also used the basic formula, my daughter's doctor told me to try Enfamil Gentlease Lipil It is for fussiness and gas also helped out with my babies constipation. And last try a peppermint lifesavers and warm water (2 ounces) it helps as well. just remember the peppermint contains sugar so use it as a last resort. hang in their i am also a first time mom.

I want you to know that all babies have gas, but there are some kids that have it worse or something else that is blamed on gas. Make sure you tell your Pediatrician when you visit.

I second the Gripe Water, they sell it right at Walgreens so it is not some mysterious medicine only available online.

I tried every brand formula on the market generic and the big brands to help my daughter when she had colic but I would recommend Enfamil products as the superior product. I will never forget the month that I was so desperate to try anything that I had four cans and two bottles of premade formula lined up on the counter and we did a taste test as well as a crying baby test and we decided Enfamil was the best tasting, happiest baby brand. Sign up for the coupons, sign up your mom, your dad, your brother, your neighbor anyone who does not have kids and have them save them for you for the coupons too then you will be spending the same amount as generic formula.

Good luck this will pass sooner than you can imagine right now.

Another thing that helps is the bottles, I would recomend either the Playtex drop ins or Dr. Browns for gas. As I bought every bottle on the market in my desperation as well.

Infant gas drops worked for my little one. Target or walmart generic brand work just as well as the name brand, but they are cheaper and you get a bit more.

Hello,

I'm 4 months pregnant but have been doing a ton of reading and ran across that issue. Another mother found some probiotic powder and mixed just a very small amount in with her babies formula. No gas, no bloating- viola! She said in a matter of 24 hours, significant difference. It might be something to at least ask about.

hi. Try Gripe Water or fennel and ginger tea. Or it's possible she's allergic to the milk in the formula...

...Babies get gas, unfortunately. I remember it all too well and I breastfed both of mine. The only advice I'd really give you is to STAY AWAY from generic formulas. If you're going to spend the money, spend it on a high quality formula and save $ on cheap diapers. Talk to your pediatrician about a soy formula if a high quality milk-based formula doesn't work... and be sure to switch her gradually, not all in one day. Give her 1/4 new formula w/ 3/4 of the current for a day or two, then switch to 1/2 and 1/2, then 3/4 new with 1/4 old, etc. until she's completely on the new brand... anything sudden will mess with her little system too much.
You can try simethicone drops with each feeding, too. My pediatrician always said it's completely safe, but may not be all that helpful... It can't hurt. It may help a little.
GOOD LUCK!

I don't know but my daughter(6weeks old 9/30/08) had worse gas when just being solely breastfed(pumped into a bottle) she's now doing mostly formula Simlac Sensitive for fussiness and gas the orange can and she's doing awesome. We still give her a bottle or two a day of breastmilk to help with pooping and for the benefits of breastmilk but this formula seems to work great.

You can give smithecone. It works great. It is made for infants and helps relieve the symptoms of gas.
