My 2 1/2 year old woke up this morning screaming because she had a bloody nose. I know the dry weather affects her like it does me, but she seems to be getting a lot of bloody noses. We have a humidifer in her room, but is there anything else we can do?

Thanks,
K. E

My daughter had this problem when she was little and i recognized it right away because i also suffered cronoc nosebleeds as a child and even up to my late teens, take her to see an ent. Ear nose and throat dr. She could be suffering from thin nasal membranes. If so then rolling over in bed could bump her nose and break one of the small membranes and cause bleeding. Being in the hot sun can also cause a gusher. I had my nose cauterized and the bleeding stopped. Thesame with my daughter. It's a bit unpleasant and sometimes has to be repeated, but it is well worth it.

My daughter was getting a bloody nose a lot so we took her to the doctor. The doctor told us that it was because of her allergies. She took allergy medicine and hasn't had a problem since then.

I suffered with bloody noses for YEARS when I was a kid. I don't remember how they diagnosed this, but I know they decided it was a Vitamin C deficiency. My mom bought chewable, and very yummy Vitamin C pills and that made a huge difference. Don't know if this is the solution or not, but probably couldn't hurt to try. Good luck!

Do you think she may be secretly picking her nose when she's in bed or someone's not watching? It definately could be dry air. We use child's saline spray to keep my daughters nose moist and not so irritated. There are directions on the bottle with how often you can use it. She hates it but it's worked with my daughters crusty nose in the mornings.

I know that when you have a bloody nose you can place a little vaseline or antibiotic ointment on your finger and put it up your nose. I do believe this could be a preventative as well. It will keep the nostrils moist, but it may smell a little funny. My granny put vaseline in her nose all the time when I was a kid, she said it kept it moist. My step-son still gets nose bleeds and he is 17 now. They started when we took him to his mothers in Washington State. We figured it was the difference in altitude and humidity.

I hope all of this helps in some way!

K.,
Hi my name is A.. My son has bloody nose all the time. The best thing I have tried is use a q-tip put vaseline on it and into the nose. A teacher at school told me to do that and it seem it work. She said that her son does the same thing and a school nurse told her what causes that the inside of the nose is dry so you need to moisten the nose with something and this works.

I had sinus surgery about 18 months ago. My ENT said to use KY-jelly on a cotton swab to protect the lining of my nose and keep it moist while it healed. There is also a product called "Nose Better" nose spray - hard to find, expensive, and is just saline spray with glycerin in it. So I bought a bottle of glycerin at the grocery store and add it to my neti pot during the winter.

The "Simply Saline" spray is pricier than the regular saline spray, but the upside of it is that you don't have to keep squeezing, the solution inside the can doesn't get contaminated, and it doesn't have to have a preservative so it doesn't have that awful taste when it drips down your throat.

(by the way - a neti pot is used with warm salt water to clean out the sinuses - I don't think a 2 year old could do it)

When I was younger I used to get nosebleeds a lot. The ear, nose and throat Dr. told my mom to cover a q-tip in neosporin and gently cover the inside of my nostril with it. It worked i have never really had a bad nose bleed after that. I know i didn't have to do it very long either (maybe a week).

My daughter is almost 5 (May 15th) and has been getting bloody noses frequently for the past several years. I have taken her to an ENT doctor and had her checked out and he said that some kids just get them. There was nothing medically that they could do. We use vaseline in her nose to keep it moist....but other than that I haven't found anything to help. I will tell you that I have found ice cubes get blood out of clothing. Let it soak and melt there for awhile (an hour or so) and then spray and wash it. Best of luck.

My daughter is 8 and still gets bloody noses we also use the neosporin which helps. My sister is an RN and said if you put peroxide on blood stained clothes it will just bubble out. I tried it and it really works (even on already dried blood as long as it hasn't been through the washer yet).

I have 3 children but they do not have nosebleeds.

I just wandered, tho, have you talked to a nurse or a doctor about this problem? If not, I would call the doctor's office and ask to talk with the nurse. Maybe she could give you further advice. I think the humidifier was a good idea, but being that she is still having this problem, I would definitely want to know what is causing them from a medical standpoint. Everyone is different and obviously, every body is different and just from reading the few responses you have already received, it is obvious that there could be many different reasons for nosebleeds. I would want to find out what is causing your child's nosebleeds so that you can prevent them, and have peace of mind. Good luck.

I had terrible nose bleeds as a child. I eventually had to have the inside of my nose cauterized because the capillaries were to close to the surface. I do have a tip on getting them to stop. Put a cold wet wash cloth on the back of her neck and it will help the blood to clot faster. It sounds strange but it really works.

I know this sounds weird but eating alot of canned vegetables could have something to do with it. My husband had the same problem. A friend told us to stop eating canned vegetables and we started eating frozen and he hasn't had a nose bleed since. I hope this helps

Have you tried using saline to make sure that her nose is moist enough? You can get plain saline (non-medicated)at any drugstore/grocery store. Saline is also good for when they have a stuffy nose too. If she keeps on getting a bloody nose you should take her to the doctor to make sure that something else is not wrong.
