I have a 2 year old who grinds his teeth while he sleeps. None of my other children ever did this so I don't know what steps to take. Has anyone's toddler ever did this and what did you do to help the issue?

What can I do next?

Teeth grinding can be a sign of a calcium deficieny and also vit B2.

Fulvic mineral complex has calcium and can help get 60+ needed minerals into his diet and deliver them right into the cells. It's awesome. Check it out online.
Along with it, take a B complex - liquid form, under the tounge 3 x a day.

Hi E.~

You are not alone- My son did this at a very young age as well; he was given a mouth guard by his dentist, very highly recommended cause these teeth will fall out, and it is the new adult teeth that will grow in crooked.
You can also get these mouth guards at Wal-Mart for like $8 or so.. not very expensive- and just like anything else you want to enforce like glasses, homework or not too much t.v rule- it will be a fight at first but soon it will pass and the annoying sleeping chipmunk sound will stop - lol
Thank God my son does not do this anymore, and his teeth are straight. Now if we can just get daddy to stop snoring!!!

Our son did the same thing. He also suffered from frequent ear infections. The ent specialist told us he was unconciously trying to clear his eustation tubes. We ended up having tube put in and adnoids removed...he stopped grinding his teeth immediately.

Hope this helps.

My oldest daughter, now 20, did this at two. I mentioned it to the pediatrician & then looked at her teeth. They said there was no wearing to the teeth from the grinding. She grew out of it within a year. My mother-in-law was much more worried about it than I was, but it is most worrisome on the occasions when it is loud. She didn't need any dental devices or dental work because of it.

My four year old did that horribly when he was two. He even chipped a front tooth. Mostly we ignored it. He doesn't do it anymore, thankfully! But if you're really concerned, they have dental devices to help. I didn't do them because I thought it would be a nightmare to try and enforce with a two year old.

Our dentist said that this was normal and that it would increase as the baby teeth loosened and fell out, so we did not worry about it. At age 7, my son no longer grinds his teeth.

You might check with your dentist to make sure there's nothing specific about your child, but otherwise I don't think you have to worry about this.

Hi E.. I don't really have an answer, however I can relate. My two year did the same thing at night. I took her to the dentist for her first check-up & the dentist noticed her two front teeth looked as if she grinds. But the dentist said at this point she's too small to do anything about it. I haven't noticed her doing it lately. I hear stress could be a cause, so make so your baby is not having stress. Also I would maybe use fluoride in some form to strenghen her teeth. I use the woven fluoride floss before she goes to bed. She doesn't use fluoride toothpaste yet cause I don't want her to swallow it.
