2 Yr Old Wakes up with Headaches and Vomiting

My two year old has been having reoccurring episodes of waking up in the morning (sometimes early morning) having headaches and vomiting. Each time, it only lasts for a half of day and then she is back to her normal self. During her episodes, she will sleep, and wake up cranky, holding her forehead and stomach. Shortly afterwards, she will vomit and then lay back down to go to sleep. This will last for about 3-5 hours and is ongoing. It started last year and only happens once every 3 -5 months. This year she has had 5 episodes of it, with twice this month. I am not sure what is going on, but I will be calling her pediatrician tomorrow to have tests done. Has anyone else experience these symptoms with their toddler?

What can I do next?

So according to what you are saying your child as an infant, around six months old would wake up and hold their head and stomach at the same time and yet you are just now going to ask your doctor? You have been to how many well visits in this time, never mentioned it to your doctor?

Sorry but this does not make sense.

Although it sounds like migraines, 2 years old is awful young for that. I've never known of a 2 y/o to even be able to relay the fact that they had a headache. I'd take this to the pediatrician, stat.

Definitely go to the doc.
This could be a broad spectrum of things that could cause this.
1. Seizures
2 sinus
3 allergy

Just to name a few..

Have a doc her checked.

What happened? I just saw your post. That's scary! Seriously there could be a major life threatening problem developing here. Like encephalitis, cancer, seizures, etc. I sure hope and pray that this is not the case for your child. But with any problem the sooner you identify what is going on the better. Please keep us posted. Your in my prayers.

My son had bad headaches that only sleeping and medicine would help. Sometimes he would have vomitting and sometimes he wouldn't. Turns out he had migraines. Started before he was 5 but he has outgrown them.

My daughter has headaches due to allergies (sinus headache) and sometimes vomiting (apparently caused by the drainage). Sometimes this coexists with ear infections (without a fever and with her not complaining about her ears).

A doctor needs to be involved here. My son began having migraines that involve the same things. We are looking into the likely hood that they are abdominal migraines.

I am going to tell you that this can be a bad combination if it is not attended to by a physician.

I've heard recurrent vomiting can actually be caused by seizures....sounds like a possibility with the headache. I'd check it out with the pediatrician...maybe get an opinion from a neurologist.

Dehydration? She's overheating in her sleep?

Definitely go to the doctor.
