2 Yr Old. Will Not Wear Her New Glasses

My 20 month old daughter was recently diagnosed with being +6 farsightedness. Her new glasses (has had them 6 days so far) have pretty thick lenses. The frames that I got her seem to be a little big at the bridge of her nose, so they slip down a little despite being fitted for her. She will not wear them and says "NO!" when we put them on. I am trying to be very positive about it but she wants no part of it. She will keep them on for about 30 seconds tops at a time. Any suggestions on how to keep them on her? Also, the fact that they do not fit perfectly I am sure adds to her resistance. Anybody know of any frames or product that keeps these glasses on toddlers????? She must wear these glasses or her eyes will get worse over time. Please help.

So What Happened?

I took her back in to get them refitted and they did adjust them but they still do not fit properly. They gave me a head strap but that will not work either. She yanks them off and they still slide down. I think the problem is the bridge of the nose on the glasses. I found a website called solobambino.com They specialize in glasses for infants/toddlers/children & petite adults. So, I am considering ordering a pair of frames. However, I do not know if I can get my optometrist to refund on the other pair. I may just keep that pair for a second pair. Perhaps they will fit better as she grows. I am a little nervous ordering frames that I cannot try on her but there are so many little babies on there that are wearing the frames just fine. Anyone ever hear of this company??

I would go back to where you got the glasses and see if they can adjust them to fit better or if they have frames of equal value that they will switch the lens's into. I have a son who has worn glasses since he was 3 and he will not wear his glasses if they don't fit right. He is 6 1/2 now and if his frames get bent in any way he wont wear them and we take them back and get them adjusted.
I was also surprised when I took him when he was 3 to get glasses he picked out the frame. I had some I picked out but he wouldnt wear them.

Hi J., my son was 3 when diagnosed with the same problem. He would cry and say he couldnt see. It made me cry. We would put them on him for one hour, then give him a rest for 2 hours, we slowly worked up to more time each time he had to wear them. It took about 2 weeks before he just woke up one day and said, "i can't see without my glasses" I hope that helps. It is so hard to get a two year old to do what you want. And a girl on top of that, (they are so oppinionated) Maybe the frames are not right for her head size. Best thing to do is let her pick out her frames. good luck to you. and merry Christmas

She probably will not wear them because they are uncomfortable being being loose on her face , I would check back with her eye Dr and found out of there is anything you can do about them being so loose. I wear glass myself and if they were slipping down mt nose all the time I would not wear them.

I have two little ones in glasses. My oldest son has been wearing glasses since he was 4 years old. I can't imagine having to convince a 2 year old to wear glasses. I bought at a pharmacy store this strap that keeps them on their face. I also think it's important to let them take them off during outside play, plus this will save you a lot of money! Also, both my children have frames that are specially made for little kids. We go to Kids Point of View in Tulsa. Good luck!

Can you find a pediatric optomitrist that specializes in this type of thing? First the glasses should fit - second they should be involved in getting her excited about wearing them.

hello
You can get an eye glass band that goes around the head and attached to the glasses ear pieces for sports. It is elastic so it doesn't hurt. My son has vision problems. He has had glasses from 6-month to 15 yrs old. With her being so young the glasses may need to be adjusted again. I do remend metal frames at this age because they do bend and can be mended and Wal Mart is the cheaper place and they carry a one year warrenty on their frames.

Do you feel like she's been taught on a regular basis to deny her own will when necessary? Sometimes if kids haven't been taught how to do this, they will continue to inisist upon their own will no matter what the situation.

There is also the possibility that she just doesn't like the change because she didn't choose it. I can certainly understand that.

Can you buy some 'fake' glasses and wear them around and talk about how much you love them?? lol I know it sounds silly, but it might work!

If all other measures fail, you may have to discipline her in your manner of choosing. A good analogy might also help her to understand why she must wear them...

Hope it works out!
Blessings,
H.
