My daughter has been going to bed awake with little to no problems for a year now. Suddenly, in the past week she is crying hysterically for hours. The first night she finally went to sleep and then woke up an hour later and threw up. She is totally fine reading books together, but the second we put her in the crib, she says "eat, eat" and starts crying like crazy. The first night we took her out, and she ate 16 pretzels and 8 ozs of yogurt. Since that night, we have started to give her food before we head up to bed. I am still bfing, but I feel like my milk is running out, and I don't feel that I am letting down very often. Thus, I don't think that she is getting that decent sized meal from me anymore right before bed. Naps had been fine until today and she tried the same thing (though it sounds like she is calming down in about 15 mins :)). My husband has been working so much that she sometimes goes a couple days without seeing him or only sees him for a few minutes and then he is off to bed. Is this from that? Is she just going through a growth spurt? Is this separation anxiety (we've never really going through that)...but it mostly only happens at bedtime? Thanks guys.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We are doing much better. It was about a week of horror, and then she got better. We just kept working with her. It's gone back and forth over the last 5 months, but we're getting there.

Please forgive me if these words cut your heart OK. Your husband needs to spend time with this little girl. She misses her daddy. It is a love a father gives to his daughter and you can't give it to her. He needs to spend time with her even if he is tired. He needs to think about and care about his family even if he is tired. He needs to think about you and the little girl and not himself. Most woman now days haven't gotten that love from their dads and try to find it in other places and usually end up in trouble with bad relationships. God has given us an owners manual for our lives and one in this country seeks His face anymore on a daily basis. This is not my opionion it is the truth. Read Romans chapter 1 in the bible and you, if the Lord has opened your eyes will see the U.S. or another way, the society we live in. May the Lord give you His strenght, patients and peace to make it through your times of need.

In Christ

well i can tell you that most of her crying is probably from not seein her dad especially if she is used to seeing him right before she goes to bed. another thing is yes her body is going through a dramatic change at this age. although she is getting plenty of milk and solids during the day she needs to start eating a healthy meal right before bed. although pork is not the most healthiest meat on the market, its also easier on the childs digestive track and easy to chew. try baking pork chops, or pork ribs. when you buy the pork chops make sure to get the center cuts (less fat on the meat)season it lightly, and let her eat that before bed with some vegetables that she likes. my daughter likes the frozen stir fry mix because of the variety.some water to wash it down and then some juice. then right after the meal(and i cant stress this enough)give her a nice hot bath. now this is crucial you must play with her and have fun with it . when you spend more time with her in areas that she has fun with such as reading to her she will become more attached to you and she wont feel so bad when daddy leaves. not that we dont want him out of the picture. once she is done playing in the bath tub(usually within the hour)she will be ready for bed whether she likes it or not. Put some lotion on her nad some baby powder preferably lavender and chamomile and she will be off to dreamland.

Maybe try a bedtime snack as part of her bedtime routine and see if that helps. Our tried and true standby is a banana. Even if my son has eaten a good dinner, he'll still usually take the banana and eat most or all of it. If he didn't eat a ton at dinner, it's something that will hold him over until morning and I know I've gotten one more searving of fruit in him that day. : )

See if incorporating the snack as part of the routine helps. Maybe she's really hungry and this will calm her so she won't throw a fit. Good luck!

Hi H.,

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is having problems sleeping. I went through that with my son years ago. Some children give up their naps altogether. Bedtime did become a bit difficult, I had to lay there with him until he fell asleep.

I am also a "Reiki Master", spiritual energy healing. Give me a call at: ###-###-#### if you'd like to discuss this further.

Hi H.....Maybe at the end of the day your milk supply is running low. I didnt get a chance to breastfeed as I never produced enough milk. So I dont know alot about this subject so it is just a thought. Or maybe she is just still hunger. I would also suggust that your husband spends more time with her. My husband also works long hours anywhere from 12-15 hrs a day except for the winter months and is always tired, but I make sure he spends time with our 2 boys because it is very important. If feeding her a meal before bed works then stick with it, it just means her belly is not full.....Good luck to you...

Any change in routine can set off a child. Her dad not being around could do that. It also could be that she is realizing more things and is looking for ways to get out of going to bed. Could be she truly is hungry before bed but not a good habit to get into eating before bed. If you feel she is not getting enough to eat than you need to supplement more but supplement earlier than right before bed.
She also may be ready to do away with naps during the day. My son was finished with naps before he was 2 years old. That way he slept through the night with out any problems.

Good Luck
