My daughter and I our going back over to South Korea and its a 20 some hour flight, she will be 17 months old when we leave. Any idea's on how to make it easier for us both? She hates sitting for a long time, so I need somthing to keep her entertained for that long.

What can I do next?

We do a lot of long road trips with my daughter and what I found worked the best was packing a small bag of toys/coloring books whatever she really like to do at the time and she doesn't get to see what is inside till after we are on the road so it is all stuff that is brand new not the same old stuff/

I took my daughter with me to France this summer and found that although there were a few difficulties, for the most part it was great. First of all, call the airline RIGHT away to request the bulkhead seat. This is in the front of the plane and will give you much more room to move around. They even had a little "Bed" that attached to the bulkhead and my daughter slept in it. These seats are very limited and book quickly, so call soon! She was able to spread out on the floor by our feet to play and stayed very content. I also recommend the "flight vest." Which has a loop so that you can buckle your child into your seat belt if you need to. This also gave me peace of mind. And of course have something to suck on for take off and landing so that the pressure doesn't build up in those little ears. Good luck--I think it will be well worth it!

Yikes, I had trouble with two 2 hour flights and I had help from my husband. I would suggest packing her napsack with plenty of items she loves and hasn't played with in awhile. Wish I could help more, good luck!

We flew Virginia to Guam and back with our then-15-month-old daughter. My recommendation, over anything else: TONS OF SNACKS!! Bring crackers, little cookies, cereal, Gerber-type gummies, fruit, whatever she'll eat, and lots of it!

I would let her have her own little carry-on of tricks: crayons and paper, books, little toys (I would pick ones you don't mind losing). You could let her pack it herself. Then, if the plane doesn't have individual movie screens on the seatbacks with children's selections, it would definitely be worth investing in a portable DVD player. The plane is a place I DON'T mind my children sitting passively for hours!
Good luck!

I suggest leaving at night. also I found that sitting near a window helps. when I sat in the front row with my 18 month old he thought he could get up and run around, but when we sat with a row infront of us and near the window he did better. Also take a portable DVD player. And lots of Snacks.
Good Luck

Oh, yikes! I have flown a bunch with my daughter (now 20 months) from Maryland to Texas in the past year but that's just 3 and 1/2 hours. I definitely agree with the suggestions to bring snacks--especially finger foods she can feed herself. I usually take things like blueberries, cubed cheese, goldfish crackers--they are fun AND time consuming to eat. I also agree with having a stock of toys she hasn't seen before. And try to bring them out one at a time over the course of the flight. That way, when she's bored with the first one--tada!--another new toy! Although, at 17 months she may catch on and start looking for where they are all coming from. Don't forget to let her choose at least one of her favorite toys or stuffed animals to bring, but not too many to keep track of. Nothing would make a good trip go bad like losing her very favorite animal friend on the plane right at the start. Maybe give that favorite friend a pretty new ribbon so you can tie it right to your bag. And last but not least, I'd say fully half my time on the plane is spent singing, reciting poetry and stories or playing games like pat-a-cake or "here is the beehive." No doubt you you know many already but if you can, learn some new ones! Good luck!

Take a bag onto the plane that has things just for her. Juice boxes are a good idea or sippy cups because some airlines do not offer drinks with straws. Also, Crayola makes color wonder packs that are great for an airplane trip. The markers only color on the paper included in the kit. They won't color on fabric or anything else. You may want to contact the airline a few days before leaving. Tell them you will be travelling with a young child. They usually have some good tips and the flight attendants will be aware of a little one travelling with them. A lot of airlines allow you to make the choice of whether you would like to bring her car seat or not. If she is more comfortable in her car seat, try to take that with you. A lot of portable DVD players are on sale right now. Maybe you could purchase one with some kind of extended battery life and play some movies for her. Also pack some books and snacks. Good luck!!!

That's tough, but I'll tell you what my sis did. She took her 4-year-old to China to adopt a 1-year-old, so then she had 2 toddlers to fly with! I bought one of those little Dora rolling backpacks so Chloe could wheel it and I went to Target and stuffed it with crayons, paper, small toys, little books, snacks, etc. They kept it aside until that day so it was all new. I think they also had a portable DVD player for her to use, and they have a little iPod that they've filled with her music and gotten some earphones for her.

Good luck!

If she enjoys movies, get a portable DVD player and stock up on the kids stuff. Also, take along lots of items to keep her busy (ie: coloring books, maybe some music, books to read, snacks!). I think they let you walk back and forth down the isles too, so make sure to let her exercise a few times up and back every hour or so. Good luck! I am sure she will do just fine!

Believe it or not my darling 18 mo old granddaughter absolutely loved stickers and would redo them over and over in a book made for that purpose. They would stick to plastic and glass as well as slick paged books and could be removed without leaving residue or damage to the page. Of course stickers which are of designs she likes are great but I could only find the pretty kitty type and the book itself had pages of street, park, school scenes which were very plain. Other ''sticky stickers'' would be ok but may tear upon moving them from one place to another. Of course you'll have to watch carefully to make sure she does not try to eat one! Be creative and silly and she may do what my little sweetie did and that was to methodically go through all the cute stickers over and over again. That will take a good bit of time. Also, I bought pill holders from the drug store and showed her how to open and close them-she needed help but loved hearing the little snap sounds -----and you can decorate with those stickers. I'd also put some in the place where pills go, close the cover and ask her where it went-------surprise------here it is and boy would she get tickeled! Have a safe trip.
