Same as before-she is not ready to potty train and is still taking off her diapers. I have now tried everything including duct tape and she figured that out. Should I just deal with it or what? Let me know and thanks for all the advice from the first one.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I am using 2 things: duct tape and putting footless sleepers on backwards. She has not figured those out yet! Yay!!! Anyway, I also, whenever I go to the bathroom and she wants to come in with me, I let her and put her on her potty chair. Then I sing the ABC's and she knows she can't get up until they are over. It is starting to work. Again thanks for all the great advice!

get her some big girl undies to wear over them or keep her in pants/shorts all the time. This will give you the extra time to redirect her. Little Lady you have a choice, leave that diaper alone or go sit on the potty.

She may be too young to communicate her need so it's up to you to catch her before she does the deed and get her on the potty.

On the other hand she may have some allergic/discomfort reaction to the "cloth" of the diaper once it is wet and needs to get out of it right a way.

My Aunts and Mom say that when us girls (there are 5 of us and only girls) did the same thing it was time to give up diapers all together. Between the 5 of us we have 3 girls and 8 boys. The boys never did this that early but the girls did.

Have you tried putting the diaper on backwards? You can also have them wear onesies since it's harder to undo the snaps. If it's happening at night and you put her in a sleeper (one's w/out feet), put it on her backwards also. :)

This is probably not true for your daughter, but mine had urinary track infection often when she was a toddler and she couldn't stand for anything to be touching her down there and when she urinated it was strong and may have burned if the infection was coming on so she would take her clothes off all the time, even in the car! Just thought I would mention it.

Maybe she is ready to potty train. 21 months is old enough to potty train. I REALLY recommend a book called "Diaper Free Before 3". It really helped me. Just b/c your daughter is not verbalizing she wants to go, doesn't mean she is not ready. It also took me a while to figure out that my kid didn't like the kid potties, she wanted to sit on the big toliet like a big girl. Once we figured that out, everything started to fall into place. She is now potty trained with minimal accidents. It took about 6 weeks from when we first put her in training pants (the cloth kind, not disposable) full time. I will admit, that part sucked. We really had to minimize our outings and social life. But by putting her in the training pants, she learned it was unpleasent to be wet. We also would put her on the potty on a set schedule (whether she went or not...on wake up, before going to sleep, before and after meals, after about an hour of play). She has to pee sometime, and if you spend most of your day sitting on the potty, then she will go in it eventually. Get the book....it REALLY helped me. I borrowed it from the library, but I am sure you can also buy it at a bookstore.
I really think if it is SO difficult to keep diapers on her, then it would be time for the diapers to go. I don't think it is a power struggle...I think she is trying to tell you something.
Good luck!!!

It sounds to me like she has made this a power struggle issue. When they want to let you know that they can do anything they please, they can use anything. They will choose any behavior they they know bothers you and they will do it to see how far they can push you.

You need to shadow her. Don't let her out of your site for so much as a minute that she's awake. Look at her every minute and catch her trying to take them off. Keep the clothes on period. Your the grown up and she's the child. She needs to know this and accept it. It really only begins here. Through the years she's going to choose many behaviors to torment you with. But it doesn't have to be all that bad. You just can't let your guard down. If she sees a chink in your armour, it's all over. In other words, your will needs to be stronger than hers.

A few months ago I read that child under the age of two cannot physically be ready to understand when they have the urge to pee and tell an adult to get there. I am not sure I believe this, but being the parent of two year old nudist...I think the sooner the potty training happens the better. My daughter began potty training by herself at your daughters age...she is now 27 months and potty trained. I still struggle to keep clothes on her. Before she was ready to potty train, I would safety pin her shirt to her overalls or pants. This made it impossible for her to undress and it made her very angry. It also made her have to tell me when she had to potty. I think it sped up her progress of potty training and definitely her speech. Now I don't use this technique, but rather she knows that she ahs to wear clothes. I won't let her out of her room until she chooses to wear clothes. This works for me. Hope it helps.
