when i first found out i was pregnant my hair started falling out horribly, i had to clean the tub drain 2-3 times before i got out of my 10 minute shower it was that bad. i know that the hair loss thing is common after pregnacy and some women have i during so that didnt bother me and it has ceased a little bit over the months, but, what does bother me is that my hair seems to have stopped growing. i got it cut a few weeks after i found out so it was all even but now it just seems to have stopped. i have looked on the internet for reasons and the only thing that comes up is the hair loss issue nothing about it stopping. i want to grow my hair out but if its not growing i dont think that's going to work out so well... :o) has anyone else had this issue? what products could i use to help it, if any.

What can I do next?

You can try a shampoo with aloe vera. My mother had to take chemo and used a shampoo with it and it stopped her hair from falling out.

Hi Terri,
Congrats on the pregnancy! I'm also pregnant (29 weeks). My hair is actually growing quite a bit this time around (sorry!) but with my second child i had the same issue with my hair that you're having. It really stopped growing and was even breaking. The salon where i go mentioned that sometimes your hair gets depleted of protein while you're pregnant (i don't know if that's true or not) but they suggested an intense conditioner once/twice a week. it helped a lot. i used a product line called Kerastase - they have several deep conditioners. it wasn't cheap but it lasted a long time.
Good luck!

Terri,
This is one of the topics that I cover in my childbirth education classes as well as answering this question from my doula clients.
I'd look ffrom the inside out. So, your diet is the very first thing that I'd go over. Are you drinking enough water? Cutting out any caffeine, sodas and white sugar. Are you eating enough protein and getting plenty of veggies, especially greens( not including lettuce). B vitamins are the ones that deal with hair and nails. Many physician prescribed prenatals are not readily absorbed, as they are not food based.
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like more detailed info.
Good luck,
L. M.

Terri,
Are you getting the nutrients you need??? Prenatal vitamins, plenty of protein and calcium? I haven't researched it, but I wouldn't think it that common to lose lots of hair during. I didn't like the way my hair responded while pregnant, but it grew rather than falling out. If you're stressed by your 2 year old, that's probably not helping, either:-) Can you find some time for yourself? Nioxin products are used by many to help reduce hair loss, but I don't know if there are restrictions on use during pregnancy. Good luck! K.

Terri,

I know this is not a laughing matter but it is kinda funny to read that your hates you. LOL I completely understand what you are talking about. Mine was AWFUL with my last child. I mean it was just like what you described. And I lost it for a LONG time afterward too.

I found that I was not taking enough of my Prenates (vitamins) with him. For some reason, my body needed more nutrients with that preg than the other two did. Are you taking prenates? The prenates should make everything, hair nails etc, grow faster. Your body is lacking or out of balance otherwise. I'll be glad to suggest what I use if you'd like. Let me know.

Please give your husband a huge THANK YOU from our family for his service to our country! We are so grateful for all that he does to help protect us. And thanks to you Terri for your support to him. You know they say, behind every good man is a great wife! LOL
