My 22 month old son has been having some really bad gas lately! In the last 2 weeks he has even woken up in the middle of the night crying because his stomach hurts (the reason I know this is because when I pick him up to calm him down he starts passing a lot of gas which then makes him cry even more)!! I am not sure what to do to help him! As an infant we gave him mylicon drops but what do you do for an almost 2 year old?? Is there anything I can give him? He does have a bowel movement everyday (sometimes twice a day) so I know he is not backed up. Also, is there something possibly in his diet that is giving him gas or something (maybe too much apple juice?)! I am not giving him something he needs in his diet? He eats well.. of course we have a harder time with veggies but overall a great eater! Any advice to to help with my child's discomfort???!

What can I do next?

I would try a little chamomile and peppermint tea (together). This always works for everyone in my family including my 16month old.

I would reevaluate his diet. Dairy is the main culprit of excess gas. See what happens if you eliminate it. Try alternatives like almond milk, or a good quality yogurt. Don't increase the juice (actually eliminate if possible). A 2year old doesn't need the sugar. Instead offer the real fruit like blueberries. They're in season now so he should love them.

K.,
Mylicon can be used for 2 yr olds. It has a dosing amount on the box. What is his night routine. My DD would wake up with a ton of gas, it turned out that she didn't like the milk I was giving her. I don't know if it had turned bad or if it was the brand. It was one of those exteded life, extra pasturized 2% types. I bought a new container of milk, and made sure that it was a regular brand, and she went back to normal.
Good luck.

Hi, K.,
I have a friend who's little boy has had similar issues. She used something called "Probiotic Boost" which is a children's probiotic. It's in powder form and tastes like a pixie stick! It helps to maintain the healthy flora in the intestines. My 3 year old daughter loves it! To read more about the probiotic, you can go to https://www.advocare.com/05102522/Store/ItemDetail.aspx?i... and read more about it. Hope that helps!
