Hi. If you visit the One Step Ahead website, they make a crib canopy that is really nice. I think this would really work for your little one :)

Hello everyone!
My question is recently (past 2 weeks)my soon to be 2 yr old has been climbing out of her crib. It was cute when she would do it after her nap or when she gets up in the morning but now when we put her to bed she does it 3-4 times before she finally stays in her crib for the night. Now is there anyone who has found a way to keep their child from climing out of their crib? I have thought about converting her crib to the toddler bed but then I think this would make the climing out much easier. Does anyone have any advice?

My daughter did this also, and I purchased a crib tent to keep her safe because I was afraid she would fall. I kept her in the crib with the tent until she turned 3, then we switched to a toddler bed.
My son is doing the same thing! We just got a twin with a bed rail (actually it is mesh) - we aren't going to use a box-spring yet so that it isn't too high. We super-toddler proofed his room & we got an extra tall gate (I found one that is 39 inches) for his doorway. I didn't want him roaming the house if he gets up - the first time he climbed out of the crib I found out by hearing the pitter patter of his little feet - he didn't call for me or anything & I had the monitor on! It scared me because I realized all that he could have gotten into if I hadn't heard him!! We just happened to have the twin bed - I probably would have gotten a toddler bed if we didn't have the twin already...
Usually the recommendation is to move them to the toddler bed if they are climbing out so they don't end up breaking something. Climbing out of a toddler bed is safer. You can use a gate in the doorway or close the bedroom door to keep her in. Then you make sure the room is thoroughly baby proofed and let her go - if she falls asleep on the floor, so be it. Eventually she'll learn the toddler bed is most comfortable. If she was much younger, I might look into the crib tent or something like that, but 2 isn't super young for changing. I have friends that had to move their 18 month olds because of climbing out repeatedly.
Yes, the bed will be easier to climb out of BUT there won't be a challenge in it and the novelty will end much quicker. It is safer all around for her to climb out of the bed.
My daughter started climbing out of her crib at about 20 months so I moved her to a todler bed, It is much safer to climb out of. She gave me a hard time at first but the novelty wore off and she sleeps great again. At nap time for the first two weeks she played in her room, but I left her in there anyway. At night time she would get up and knock on the door and cry for a minute but then she would climb back into bed and go to sleep because she was so over tired from not napping. I think no matter when you choose to transition into a "big kid bed" you might have some issues like these because it is something new and exciting for them, and a new boundry to test out. It took my daughter two weeks to get over it and back to a normal schedule. She is 23 months now and sleeps in a twin and she loves it!
