27 Wks Pregnant and Stomach Pain for Last 10 Days

Hi Moms,

I am hoping someone out there has some insight. I'm 27 weeks with third baby and have never had symptoms like this before. I have been having bad stomach pain - complete seizing up to the point where I am pretty much exhausted. It seems to be worse when I move around but it's often bad just sitting still too. Most nights it has woken me up. No vomitting or other unpleasant issues. I have been eating lightly when I can but have lost weight instead of gaining (for baby). After the first week of assuming I had a stomach bug, I changed my theory and started worrying that the seizing up sensations were actually contractions. My OB checked and there are no signs of early labor. So now I'm back to wondering what this is. I did have a yeast infection and my OB said that can cause some contractions but I have been treating that for 2 days and still no improvement with the cramping stomach pain. It is so bad that I have been lying in bed or on floor for days. My poor children are wilting away inside because I don't feel well enough to play or take them outside. Could I really still have a stomach bug after 10 days? Is this all from yeast (seems unlikely)?any other ideas ?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Moms, I know this post was a while ago but we just got an answer to what was going on. So after 6 weeks of feeling horrible and losing weight -- while pregnant mind you -- we have a conclusion: Giardia. Don't ask me how but somehow both my son and I picked up this nasty little parasite. The pediatrician actually figured it out after my son suddenly came down with the same symptoms. He was sick for 2 weeks before they took a stool sample and found the Giardia. We are both on antibiotics now and feeling sooooo much better. I am so relieved to have this solved.

I had a yeast infection during my first pregnancy and did not have anything like that. Please call your OB ASAP.

Being that this is your third, I'm sure you've already ruled this out, but since you describe the pain as a seizing up, it makes my wonder if it's Braxton Hicks contractions? Your OB saying that you're not in early labor would still be correct, because Braxton Hicks do not mean you are in labor... just a thought...

Is there any chance it has something to do with what you're eating? I know this sounds crazy, but I'm lactose intolerant only when I'm pregnant; if I have even the slightest amount of dairy, I get stomach cramps so bad that I want to cry. This is more likely if you're also having loose stools (because your body can't digest whatever it is). I do agree with the other posters, though; get to the OB again! My prayers are with you.

HI--
Start taking probiotics right away--they'll help the yeast and calm your tummy. You could have a hiatal hernia--this is when the stomach gets pushed up under the diaphragm. Lay on your back for just a second, take a deep breath, and as you breathe out, put a thumb or fingers just under your sternum and pull your stomach towards your belly button as far as you can (until you hit your uterus). This stopped my heartburn when I was pregnant. A chiropractor can also help if your willing to go that route. It might also help to take some food enzymes with your food.

I would make your doctor keep checking till he figures it out. It sounds like what I had post partum - an UTI. It didn't hurt for me to pee, or make me pee more often...more like an appendicitis. It was pretty severe when they finally found it.

I'm wondering about your gallbladder... I think you need to head back to the OB. If the doesn't know then ask for a referral to a perinatologist. It isn't okay for you to be feeling this way.

Could be a muscle spasm. The muscles of your stomach are being stretched and stressed. I would go back to your OB and ask if this is a possibility and if not, ask them to run some more tests.

I have had a yeast infection with each of my pregnancy. It felt more like my guts were trying fall out the vagina as well as pain in my lower back. Very uncomfortable sitting, standing or laying down. I don't remember any pain in the stomach area due to a yeast infection. However, if you had c-section on one or both of your previous pregnancies the weight of the baby can cause pressure on the scars and can be quite painful for a while. At any rate, I would contact your OB to make sure everything is alright.

I had several UTIs throughout all my pregnancies, and twice it advanced very quickly to kidney infections, causing 4 days of hospitalization in my last pg. I would make sure your OB checks your urine for EVERYTHING, because those are very painful, and can be very dangerous if not treated. Thats what it sound slike to me.
