I am going to have a picnic for my daughters 2nd birthday. I am think a veggie tray, long Subway sandwich, and cupcakes, water and juice box's. Any other ideas? It will be mostly adults (family) and maybe 2 or 3 kiddos. Thanks!

Revised - I am OUT on the big SUBWAY sandwich. 38.00 / 3 feet and must purchase in 3 foot increments. Not happening!

We got a chick-fil-a nugget tray for my son's birthday. That was a big hit. We got the middle sized one that was $38 (I think) for 120 nuggets. We had a dozen or so left and there were 11 adults and 5 kids. They have a smaller one that is $20 that we get with our playgroup a lot (3 adults and 7 kids) and usually have a few left over, but there is also a bigger one if you have a large group. With the nugget tray, we had a homemade mac & Cheese (I can send the recipe if you want), veggie / dip tray, chips & queso / salsa, pineapple / apple slices / grapes / strawberries, and a couple other kinds of chips. It was all kid friendly foods, and my son's favorites. My in-laws brought a pasta salad and my mom brought some potato salad.

I would do a meat and cheese tray for the adults kind of a build your own sandwich theme, pb&j for the kids, chips, goldfish, veggies, cupcakes, water and juice. i've found that buying meat/cheese from the deli is often cheaper than pre-packaged stuff and you could just put it out on your own serving platter. I've also seen some really cute disposable serving platters at target. it would be easy, inexpensive and not too much work. Have a great time!!

Hi Lindee,

Check out Sam's for the sandwichs they have pretty reasonable trays for a lot less than the grocery stores and places that cater or you could make your own. I always do turkey, ham, and some plain cheese and lettuce. Also my kiddos lover watermelon. It's always a hit at the family BBQ's. You know Subway has the $5 dollars subs right now.. depending on how many people you have that may work for you..

Do a Sub Tray from Subway instead of the long sub. I hostessed a Teacher's Luncheon for my son's school, The Academy at Nola Dunn, and bought five "Foot Long" subs for $18. I had them cut the subs in half, so I had ten 6-inch subs. They only do this for cold subs. They were great!!! Have Fun!

Just go for a bunch of the $5.00 footlongs. That will save you a lot of money right there.
