So do you start showing much much earlier the 2nd time around? I'm only 8 weeks and I feel like my belly is huge. I haven't even gained weight yet, but I feel like I'm huge. What's up with that?

I felt the same way in the beginning of my second pregnancy so you aren't alone. My weight gain wasn't huge, but I guess because I was already pre-stretched, I 'pooked' earlier. But in the end, I carried my second pregnancy (a second girl) much lighter and smaller, and at birth she was bigger than my first! My first my whole body got big, my second, only my tummy. So I guess each pregnancy can be completely different, even if both are the same gender. Good luck with everything!!

Yes, it's absolutely normal to start showing real early with the 2nd pregnancy. I started showing at 6 weeks with my second child.

Hi...I am due with my second child Aug 7. With both of my pregnancies I didn't start showing until I was around 6.5 months. I have about 8 weeks left and I feel huge too. Try not to worry to much about when you start to show or how big you get. Just remember that this is such a beautiful experience and try to embrace it.

Hi Y.,
Yes, you generally show earlier on after your first pregnancy. All of your muscles have already done the work of stretching out the first time around, so even if you've gotten back into shape, this will still usually happen. Of course, every pregnancy is different, but that was my same experience too.

YES! Unfortunately you start showing a lot earlier. I just gave birth in April to my second son, and I started growing out of my normal pants at around 10 weeks. It was SO depressing! (I also gained a little more quicker too.) However, all of my friends that are/were pregnant with thier second or more child have had the same issue. And apparently it gets worse with each one after. UGH! :( Good luck with your pregnancy though!

Yes, you show much earlier - for me by 12 weeks I had that "bump" whereas the first time it was after 5 months. I think some of it, however, is FEELING pregnanat sooner - you just recognize the bloating and fulllness sooner.

It's typical that you show earlier when you have had a child already. Also a lot of people are able to feel the baby kick sooner. Your belly can get big without gaining weight. I didn't gain until about 4 months and then I gained 50 pounds. I don't mean to scare you with the weight, that was just my experience. I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Y.,

With my first child, I was dying to look pregnant and it seemed like it took forever (5 months or more). With the second child I looked pregnant by week 10. Then the third time around by the time the stick turned blue I couldn't wear my clothes! Your body just knows what to do -- your muscles relax, and everything starts shifting earlier. It doesn't mean you'll gain more weight (I gained a ton with my first, 70, but only 30 with my second) and it doesn't necessarily mean it will take longer to get your pre-pregnancy weight back. Good luck and congratulations!

Hello,

Hate to break the news to you....yes you do. I didn't show until I was seven month pregnant with my first one the second time around it was pretty soon within the first tri-mester. Good luck with your pregnancy and remember it only last nine months.

I am 9 mos pregnant with my second son - my first was 21 mos when we conceived. YES, you do show sooner. I really popped between 20-30 weeks (weight gain too), but it has slowed down significantly the last month or so. Don't worry about it - your body just remembers what it's supposed to do, so it's getting ready ahead of time. Best of luck!

Yes, you show earlier. Your abdominal muscles "remember" and relax sooner.

Congrats. My daughter is 17 months and my new baby is due at the end of December.

I definitely think I am showing sooner, but I am also carrying the baby higher sooner. Last time, the waist on my pants got tight first. This time, my shirts are getting tighter and the pants still fit fine.

Not only did I start showing a lot earlier but so did all of my other pregnancy symptoms. I'm only 5 months along and I've already been dealing with loose and painful joints for about 2 months already and I didn't have any of that until my 7th month with my DS.

Congratulations and enjoy your 2nd time around.

Yup I know I did. Mine were spaced similarly as well so that may have something to do with it. I think our bodies just "remember" or haven't had time to forget. Even though I showed earlier I never got as big with my second child as I did with my first. Congrats and good luck!

Hi,

I'm on my fourth pregnancy now, and my belly surely knows what it wants to do. Everything starts earlier, I am expecting to be huge by the end. I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant and it's loud and clear that I'm pregnant, I've still not gained weight which is good for me, since I've been pregnant most of the last three years but that will change.

Normally the closer you have your children together the less time your body has to recoup, but I tell myself that when I'm done with child bearing I hope to get back close to where I was, so I tell myself I'm Elastagirl, right now I'm in stretch mode when I'm done I'll go right back.

Good luck it's great to have 2 they become close and good playmates.

S.

You do start showing much earlier due to the fact that your stomache muscles are already stretched out. I just had #2 and my son is 18 mths. I only gained 8 lbs the entire pregnancy which was nice and the baby was healthy. He was born a month early at 5lb 13 oz. so don't worry to much, you may get lucky and only gain the baby. You will feel like a house though! My first I gained 25 lbs and was a house :)

Yes, the 2nd (and all after that) show much quicker. It's like your tummy is responding with a "I remember this". By the time I had my 4th and 5th children I looked like I was about 4 months at 8 weeks. One lady even said to me, "my goodness! 12 weeks? I wasnt that big till about 5 months!" Needless to say, I cried all afternoon after that comment. Don't fret.

The sooner you get pregnant after a pregnancy, the more primed your belly is for that new pregnancy.. so it is just ready to go!

I had my second baby this past January and I felt the same way! Your uterus is growing and your stomach muscles don't hold it in the way it did the first time. It just lets you get into maternity clothes sooner than the last time!

Yes, your body knows what to do so it starts EARLY! I started showing at 9 weeks with my second pregnancy and I was barely 7 weeks with my third when I started wearing maternity clothes.

yes, your body remembers what to do and the muscles are already able to stretch to accomodate pregnancy so you show almost immediately. before, as in your first pregnancy, your body was new to the changes and the muscles reluctant to expand except on demand. now they know what to do and jump ahead. i had twins the first time around and am now pregnant with a single and i showed as quickly as i did with twins. the pregnancy articles i read annoyed me because they were all saying i'd start to show in "x" amount of months and i already was showing, and not subtly! don't sweat it, it's nice to show earlier because you won't spend those first three months wishing people knew that you were pregnant and not just bloated! :-)
