To add to Lucky's post, I had my sons 3rd birthday in our home. It was just an hour and a half. We had cake and then each child painted bird houses to take home. I gave all the moms of the children invited a heads up as to what would be happening so they didn't wear good clothes. You can buy wooden bird houses at Oriental Trading Company (online) fairly cheaply. Then went to the craft store and got brushes and paint. I chose acrylic paints (which do stain) because I figured the kids would hang them outside. Have fun, and happy birthday to your daughter. :o)

Ah...How about your own home. Keep it simple and invite only a handful of people. Cater if you don't want to cook. Have some entertaining toys set out for the little ones/decorate cookies and engage in some adult conversation for 2 hours.

My daughter turns 3 this year too. We're having her party at a bounce house place in McKinny - Jump N Land - or at Chuck E Cheese. We haven't decided yet. Another place is Build-A-Bear at Stonebriar Mall in Frisco but I wasn't sure if they would be old enough for that. I can definitely understand having the party out somewhere during the winter months instead of having the kids cooped up in the house. It will also allow my husband and I to be able to relax and enjoy our daughter's party to without being worried about our house being over-crowded or making food or cleaning up afterward. We did have her 1st birthday party at our house and last year we took her and another couple with their son to the Children's Museum in Dallas and then went somewhere to eat and back to our house for cake. That was fun too but I wouldn't plan to do that with a group.

Have fun and enjoy your daughter's 3rd birthday!

We have been to parties for three year old that were at a party place and were not overwhelmed. I have a little boy, but we have had/been to parties at bounce houses in Plano, chuck e cheese and the wiggles playplace in frisco. He enjoyed all of them. Sometimes having it at home is not simpler than having it somewhere where you bring a cake and they take care of the rest. Happy birthday to your daughter!

For your 3 year old, why get crazy? This is going to be the first birthday that she "gets" so having it out somewhere may be overwhelming. Sounds like the potential for a meltdown. Just order a few pizzas- what she would prefer anyway and have your immediate family over and possibly 1-3 of her little friends, and their parents.
