3 Year Old Sleeping on the Floor

My 3 year old son sometimes sleeps on the floor on his blankets instead of in his car bed. Does this mean he is ready for a twin bed? He is rather short so I am not sure why he wants to do this.

What can I do next?

Just ask him! If he wants a "big boy bed" get him one. If he just enjoys the floor, and it's not affecting his sleep, let him sleep there.

My son did this during the transition to his toddler bed. He liked the floor better than the toddler bed, so it was like his entire room was a big crib! Blankets and pillow everywhere while he slept 9as my mom would say) "on the floor like a dog"! LOL But it was a phase and it passed.

Kids think it is fun to sleep on the floor. I have two kids ages 6 and 4. Sometimes they decide to sleep on their floor in a nest of blankets or in a sleeping bag. As long as they are sleeping well, it's not a big deal.

My daughter did that too. It was a phase. She had a bed already... but she went through a phase where she'd just want to sleep on the FLOOR next to her bed.. and she'd make a "nest" (her words) on the floor next to her bed with ALL her blankets and stuffed animals and she'd sleep there. We let her. The main point for us, being that she slept.

There was no "problem" she had, nor I about it. It was just a phase. No psychological thing or issues. Just a phase. My son too, likes to sleep on the floor too sometimes. Its okay.

Main thing is the child sleeps, is comfortable and sleeps well.

Or just ask him is his car bed it too "small."

All the best,
Susan

Our son went through that stage when he was about four. We figured no harm done in allowing him to sleep there, as long as he slept well. He did it for a few months and then suddenly decided he wanted to sleep in his bed again. You might just see how this goes over time before rushing out to buy a new bed. I suspect he just thinks it's fun.

My 3y does this too! She calls it her princess bed! Sometimes she uses her sleeping bag and goes 'camping'. I don't think its because she's ready for a new bed, she just wants the adventure.

My 3 year old daughter has been doing this for months but she brings her pillow and blanket and sleeps next to our bed. I don't know what is going on I keep think night terrors.

My daughter is almost 4 and has slept on the floor ever since we bought her a sleeping bag for her last birthday.

She lays the sleeping bag down like a bed roll and sleeps on top of it.

She was already on the bottom bunk of the bunk beds with my son on top for some time prior to that and transitioned to the floor.

I have no idea why she likes this better, she just does. She sleeps well and is very proud of it. We just make sure she is warm and snug and she does just fine.

When she was on the bottom bunk bed, she did frequently roll out and end up on the floor, but I do not think it is anything to do with the fear of falling out.

My son now sleeps on the bottom bunk to be closer to his sister. They both seem happier with this arrangement so I am just letting it go.

We have the kind of bunk beds that can separate into two twins if needed.
