What can I do for him to help w/his cough?

He is too young for cough medicine (they all seem to say age 12 & up)
and they don't make infant/toddler cough medicine.

Or do they?

Anything I can give him to help ease the tickle in his throat?

I think he may have gotten this from his sick cousin. Poor little guy. TIA

What can I do next?

They do make children's cough medicine, it's homeopathic. Mostly though, it's honey water. You can try it and give him honey lemon water if he will drink it. At night, I give my 3 year old children's cough medicine, just a low dose so he will sleep. You can also take him to the doctor and the doctor will prescribe a cough medicine. I think it's really important for kids to sleep at night.

Honey.
Run a cool mist humidifier at night in his room.
Vicks on the bottoms of his feet and socks.
Push liquids.
Ask your pediatrician about Mucinex.
Actually, ask you pediatrician about the whole thing!
No OTC cold medicines for 3 year olds any more. They don't work......

A spoonful of honey can really help a cough.

Gargling with salt water might help if he's old enough to spit it out and not swallow it.
You can try using a neti pot on him to rinse his nose out and a humidifier (and warm steamy baths) can help keep the cough loose.
Make sure he keeps up his fluids.
Kids usually bounce back from these things pretty quickly.

They do make homeopathic cough medicine for little guys -- I've tried Zarbee's brand and Boiron for my 3-year-old. Honestly I think they work about the same as a tablespoon of straight honey. The Zarbee's tastes pretty gross, but the Boiron brand tastes like watered down honey.

You can give him a spoonful of honey, dark karo syrup, or pulpy orange juice. It will help with the dry tickle in his throat. Sometimes I will let my kids have a dumdum sucker to suck on. (if it is in the middle of the night, I stay with them until they finish so they don't fall asleep with it). I also keep room-temp tap water in a cup next to them to drink if they get that itchy cough.
My pediatrician has ok'd giving triaminic nighttime cough or children's dimetapp (1 teaspoonful on the measuring cup that comes with it) if his/her cough gets bad. I have given it to him as needed since my kids were 18 months old and it is a real lifesaver. Please ask your doctor about that first though, my kids were both on the heavier side of their precentile ranges for height and weight, so I don't know if that makes the difference. Sitting in a steamy bathroom for 20 minutes can help, vicks vaporub on the feet with socks and a cool mist humidifier are all helpful too.
Hope this helps!
