3D or 4D Sonograms - Did You Do One?

We have had 4d sonos with all three of our pregnancies and have been VERY happy with them. The photos and video are amazing and such a treasure. We had used Baby Insight for our first two, but they are no longer in business, so we went to Motherhood Sonogram for this last one. They were equally as good, providing a comfortable atmosphere, room for family to watch and video and photo keepsakes. A quick google search should turn up several locations near you. Expect to pay around $200 for a package that gets you 30-40 minutes of video and a bunch of still photos (we came home with a DVD of around 50 photos and 40 minutes of video).

I know you probably can't wait to meet your baby and it sounds like a lot of fun to see her now, but there are risks associated with ultrasound, and it shouldn't be used without a medical reason.

Why do you want one, except for obvious personal reasons? If there is no medical need for more clarity (e.g. a probable birth defect which will require immediate surgery or intervention rapidly after birth) this is foolish. Every sonogram exposes your fetus to strong 'sound' waves which raise amniotic temperature and excite cells. Low dose methods using specific types of waves are thought not to be harmful, and are of course, the current standard of care. But this 'standard' is to receive only 1-2 at specific times in the course of a pregnancy, and no more if there is no medical reason. Please skip this unneccessary procedure.

This is where I went to have mine done it was 2 years ago and I still watch the video, they play baby lullabye's in the creation of the video it's so nice. I had 2 video's done 1 at 7 mo. and the other at 9 mo. My husband loved it almost more than me. They have you relaxed in a very large and comfortable room and you can have as many family members and friends as you want during the sonogram. I loved it and I still like watching my video. My daughter came out looking exactly like the ultrasound. The cost was $200.00 total back then, for the two.

i had a 3D one but it was my only ultrasound. it was really neat and a little creepy looking. my insurance did cover it but again it was my only ultrasound. most docs want an ultrasound to do measurements on the baby and to check the placenta. in my opinion it is totally worth to not be surprised by serious complications in the birth. it is through processes like these that our death rates during childbirth are so low in this country.
