3D Ridiculousness

Does anyone out there like this trend of 3D in kids' movies? We went to see a movie today and the 3D was so muddy and useless, it actually detracted from the film. My son hates wearing the glasses. I hate paying the extra $$ for nothing. The theater did have a regular showing, but not until 9:00 pm tonight - for a kids' movie! We hardly ever go to movies and the 3D thing makes me almost never want to go.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Glad it's not just me. Good idea to speak to management in the local theater. I was thinking more along the lines of "How the heck do I let Hollywood know?" I like the experience of taking my son to a movie, but not at these prices and not when we don't enjoy the 3D.

Personally I thing it's a fad to make some extra money, honestly.
3d was popular for a short time when I was a kid many moons ago... then it faded... now it's back.
Money waster until its perfected and we can watch it without glasses.
I'm waiting for the whole hologram stuff to appear, that's what I'm talkin about.

THe way to let them know is through the money trail.
I can't see in 3D, I have no depth perception. So if no one goes to these movies, then they wil have to stop making them, or our theaters will have to stop carrying them.
Be sure to tell your theater and have any of your friends who dont like it tell them too.
Like so much else this is just another way we are led like sheep.

Whenever I've taken my daughter, 8, to see a movie in 3D we always get to keep the glasses and she thoroughly enjoys seeing the movie. I loved seeing Beauty and the Beast in 3D with my husband. I do agree that the price is high but it costs only $3 more per ticket to get the ability to not only see it in 3D but also get to experience the reclining padded seats with cup and snack holders. I see it as a nice splurge every now and again.

I would call the movie theater and tell them why I am not going to be going to the movie in their theater. IF they want my business they would show the non 3-d movie at a reasonable time. They are making more money off the 3-d one so if parents don't tell them they need to change it then they won't change it.

I am so sick and tired of these 3d movies! I refuse to see them and really hate that sometimes my local theaters only show the 3d version. To me, its not even real 3d, nothing "jumps out" it just looks weird. My son also doesn't like the glasses. In Md we are charged an extra 4.00 them! Per person! So for us it would be an extra 16! No way. We also have Imax, which I believe is 3d how we are used to seeing it and it costs 6 dollars extra.

You are so right!

My 8-yr old daughter doesn't like 3D movies either. So we don't go to them if there is an option. If there isn't an option, we just don't go.

I took my 12 yr old son to see Titanic in 3D and it was so not worth the extra money. The 3D was barely noticeable. I did enjoy the Avatar 3D, but it was so strong, I had a headache for over a day.

Thanks for cementing in my head I won't be paying for another 3D movie ever again.

i think it's pretty silly and useless- another gimmick to get us to pay more. like IMAX movies. i went to one *and payed the extra money* and it just gave me a headache and motion sickness. most movies don't need to be in 3D at all.

i do, however, like the ones we have round here now that serve dinner as well. also way overpriced, though so we have only been once. now THAT was nice :)

It is overkill. Once in a while is fine, but it's really not worth the money. My son always has me look for the movies that are also playing in regular format, because the 3D movies make him nauseous. Hubby can't handle them at all. He just gets way too dizzy. I do think the price of movie ticket and the snacks are way too high. It's like robbing people, even if you go to the matinee. It's bad enough that the popcorn is horrible. They don't pop it like they used to, instead they get some stupid name brand popcorn. (If I want microwave popcorn, I'll buy it from a store.) I don't even think they clean out the butter machine, because we got sick twice. I wind up sneaking my own stuff in. I know they don't allow it, but they a trip to the movies shouldn't be the same price as a lobster dinner in a nice restaurant.

Not impressed! I'm good with regular movies. Only time 3D might be good is if movie has REALLY good special effects, like action packed movies.

3D and kids do not mix, but I enjoy it for some movies - but I rather they be filmed in 3D not just made that way later.

It seems 3-D becomes popular like every 30 years. It was a big hit in the 50's, 80,s and now. Of course now they do things in extreme like 3-D TV’s and almost every single movie, what a waste. The 3-D effects have gotten much better, but I prefer that most movies be shown in the regular format.

Most of the time 3D movies make me nauseous or give me a headache.
A few don't.
What I hate is the way they go out of their way to play with it when it adds nothing to the story - like pointless chase scenes - it's just filler.
Special effects for the sake of special effect does not make for a great movie.
They are so much more expensive - when a movie ticket costs $9, the 3D version ticket will be $15 - it IS ridiculous.
We only go to a theater a few times a year.

i really enjoyed alice in wonderland in 3D, but i'm glad i own it in regular format. the 3D was fun but distracting, and in a really good movie i want to enjoy the story, not just the effects.
avatar made me so sick. all i can remember from that movie was having to sit through its endless length with my eyes averted.

I hate 3D movies. Most of the time the kids they are targeting don't understand how it works and won't wear the glasses so what's the point. I have a lazy eye and rarely use my Left eye for primary vision so 3D doesn't even work on me. I'm glad they still make the movies without 3D so I can see them and I don't mind taking my kids. I agree the technology is cutting-edge but they should leave it for the high dollar action packed movies not for kids movies.

I love it for certain movies but not for kids movies. My nephew actually barfs during them. I took him to see Batman or something like that. I cant remember and he puked in my lap. My kids love it, but then they dont get motion sickness.

I don't get it. Lots of movies are in 3D now, and they charge an extra $3-4 to see it in 3D. You don't even get to keep the glasses--they expect them back for someone else to wear I guess. Wonder how sanitary they are after being "sanitized" a few times....

And, they aren't that great. The last movie I saw in 3D was Toy Story 3. I paid extra for the 3D version b/c it was my daughter's birthday. There was NOTHING in that movie that mattered that much if it was 3D or not. It would have been just as good (better actually) without the 3D version. I would have actually been comfortable watching the other 98% of it that didn't have any of the 3D effects.

And, my husband was just telling me today that even if you go during matinee hours, you still pay full price (not just matinee plus extra for 3D, but regular prices plus 3D charges) if you see it in 3D.
I am waiting for the day that they stop putting the films out in "regular D" and ONLY release 3D versions, and then expect us to pay up-charges for it.

Kids don't like wearing those glasses anyway. And they tend to make my eyes tired. So I'd rather not see anything in 3D even if they DIDN't up-charge for it.

So, I guess my answer is: "NO. I do not like this trend of 3D movies--children's or otherwise."

I've never liked it. We ended up seeing toy story 3 in regular and 3D and I didn't notice anything great about it. We saw the Avengers last night in regular and I'll be going today in 3D b/c a friend insisted, so maybe I'll notice a difference in a big action flick. But I doubt it will be better, just more expensive.
