Have a call into the dr. and possible appt today.

Daughter is constipated, hasn't had a bowl movement in 7 days, even then it was hard. she cries, her tummy hurts. We have been giving her a tsp of milk of magnesia for children every morning since last wednesday and putting fiber in her milk every evening... and nothing!! Anyone else gone through this with their child?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your comments. I spoke with the dr. yesterday. He wants to see her and do an x-ray. So we are headed to his office at 2:15 today to get things going.
I gave her a childs fleet enema yesterday and she went. Even though it was soft she still was scared, crying and acted like she was passing something hard. I'm sure it was cause her tummy was cramping... this is so hard and emotional!! She kept saying, i want to eat my vegetables.. =(
My father had bowel obstruction when he was a kid, and i hope this isn't what is going on with her...

I'll let you know what happens. Thank you all!

Hello, today is Wednesday.., went to the dr. and he said if she had a bowel obstruction she would be vomiting green.. and she hasn't done that it all. So instructions are, no milk! juice and water, and a laxative to soften the stool until she gets regular. So far no bowel movement since monday after the enema. We will see. She is eating fruits, veggies and whole wheat... i think we are on track with the foods..

My 1 y old son recently went through this when I switched him from formula to milk. A old fashioned remedy is to mix corn syrup with milk or water.
Also, i would encourage drinking plain old water all day- and apple juice. they also have over the counter remedies-ask the pharm.
good luck!

Have her eat prunes or drink prune juice just don't water it down work better if she hasn't gone in a while. I have had the same issue with my 2 year old.

I am familiar with Xango, have you tried that! Also Magnesium Citrate is great. It is of course natural and you get it in the laxative section of the store, and cost only a couple of dollars. It comes in a glass bottle and tastes like 7-UP. My grandson(3) had the same problem. We gave him a shot glass before bed, and in the morning he had a bowel movement. You may have to give more but start with that. Good luck and this does work. It is what they give people they want to clean out their system before surgeries...they tell them to drink the whole bottle. DON'T DO THAT!

This is a problem we face alot with our 3 year old. The doctors have him on a daily dose of miralax. It's a softener in powder form that we put in his drink before naptime. It has done wonders and is fine for him to take daily. For now, since you are dealing with the need to go ASAP, drop milk products. It makes a huge difference. My son still has milk but if he gets backed up, we stop it until he goes. Or, we water down his milk.
Yogurt is supposed to help with digestion. You could try that for eating. Stear clear of bananas, rice, apple juice. If she will eat an apple (needs the peel for fiber), try that.
We have such a hard time with this so I wish you luck!

I have a three year old with similar issues. I talked to my pediatricians triage nurse and she suggested my daughter drink juice and lots of water. NO MILK - It tends to bunch her up. Most doctors will recommend taking care of these things "naturally". Call your pediatrician and see what they recommend. I know it is concerning. Good luck!
