4 Month Old Has Cold and Wont Keep Formula Down

During every feed, my baby has projectile vomited her formula. She has a cold and is coughing a lot. Formula seems to make her cough more and then she throws up her bottle. I'm worried she isn't eating enough. With this last bottle, I am taking it slowly. Is this reaction from her cold??

Thank you!

What can I do next?

It probably is from the cold. I would try giving less per feeding. If she eats a little less for a few days, she'll be ok. Just make sure she is still wetting diapers so she doesn't get dehydrated. Check with your ped to make sure; he/she may want to see your baby just to check everything.

Hope she feels better soon.

i would lay off formula much, just give pedialyte to avoid dehydration and use the nose sucker to help relieve breathing.

Hi Mama,

I'm with Lola because I THINK the most important thing is to keep your child hydrated and her temp normal. But just to play it safe, please call the PED or his NURSE to verify all is well....and I'm thinking your baby is not running a high temp?

I'll pray for your little one...Blessings....

Call the pediatrician, because none of us (that I know of) is qualified to give medical advice. It could be completely normal and fine, or she could be seriously ill. Don't take chances on the internets!

it is the formula- pls try breast feeding- there are women who can help you do that even now.
See Weston Price.com for ideas for what to feed her. She is doing her best to tell you the formula isn't awful- pls do not put her on a drug to suppress her reaction to the formula- it isn't good for her.
A "cold" it the body's way of trying to get rid of something that is non survival- the body tries to wrap the bad stuff in mucous to get rid of it.
Goat's milk perhaps, barley milk is very good- send me a msg and I'll give you the details on fixing it.
The formula is awful.
best, k

call the doctor and tell him what is up. Even if she isn't able to keep down formula, the real danger is dehydration. You should try to find out from the doctor if it is ok to supplement her with pedialyte and water if she isn't keeping down her formula.

It probably IS the cold... and should go away soon... but like Andrea said... you need to make sure she is wetting a normal amount of diapers, and keep an eye out for new symptoms... like fever, or looking like she is "in pain" or difficulty breathing (especially if you have recently cleared out her nose and she still seems to have a hard time). Other than that, give her plenty of comfort and rest!

Good Luck

It could be from the cold... but I would definitely check with her pedi. tomorrow morning. Until then, try giving her only one or two oz per feeding, just more frequently. You might try giving her a little bit of gripe water, it has ginger in it and may help settle her stomach a little bit.
