I have a son that will be 4monts Dec. 6th. He had some problems with projectile vomiting the first couple of months. I switched fromulas, and now he doesn't spit up near as much. The problem now is that he sometimes spits up normal baby spit-up, but a lot of the time he spits up a clear liquid. It is like cloudy water. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it worries me. My 5 yr old never did anything like that, nor did my friends children. I asked the doctor about it yesterday, but he had no clue. Easton (my son) is a little above average on the height chart, and a little blow average on the weight chart. He is only 13lbs. and 7 oz. he was 7 lbs 10 oz. when he was born. The doctor isn't concerned about his weigth yet. I'm just concerned about the clear spit up, and was hoping for some help or suggestions. The doctor also told me to wait until 6mos. to start solids now for some reason. Before he said 4 months???? But anyway any help would be great. Thanks!!
Sounds like reflux to me. My son had it. His doctor suggested elevating the head of the crib a few inches, to help keep stomach acid down in the stomach where it belongs.
I had the same problem with my daughter and she was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis. She had to have surgery at 10 weeks old and that fixed the problem. Maybe you should suggest that to your doctor. I know it is scary but when it is all over there will be no more projectile vomiting!!
its called REFLUX.....both of my youngest boys had.have it my now 5 yr old is free and clear of it at 18 months and my 3 yr old unfortunately has the worst case (according to his ped gastero) case he has seen in a long time! my 5 yr old had regular reflux while my now 3 yr old has silent reflux where he will sometimes spit up or not. but he also had pyloric stenosis too which cause projectile vomiting...IMO seek out a peadiatric gasterontologist. they can do a simple barrium swallow test to see if it is reflux and which kind (silent or not)
Definetely sounds like reflux to me, also known aas gerd~gastroentestinal reflux disease~ u should ask your pediatrician and request to see a specialist who deals with this in infants. my daughter had it also and with medication you will have a much happier child, the spit up is acidic and burns their little throats!!
I would get a second opinion, IMO.
There are many different reasons for excessive spitting up and vomiting. I went though this with my oldest (he is now 14 years old) but he ended up on the severe end with a diagnosis.
He was projectile vomiting and spitting up all of the time, he even spent time in the hospital when he was 30 days old for projectial vomiting (I was breast feeding him at the time).
We were in and out of doctors and the hospital and they ended up testing him for different stomach/digestive condititions, including Pyloric Stenosis. It was a big struggle his first year getting a diagnosis for why he was vomiting and having excessive spitting up episodes.
We got his diagnosis after he turned a year old and found out that he actually has Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and the excessive pressure on his brain was causing his vomiting and spitting up.
I am not trying to scare you and I am NOT saying that this is your case, but if your gut is telling you that something is wrong, then persue it and keep on the doctors about it. I know that if I didn't persue getting a diagnosis for my son, he would have been not able to walk and devlopmentally impared alot worse than he is now.

I don't know what the spit up is but I can tell you if you feel your doctor isn't being concerned and you think he should be try another doctor. I have learned that doctors go by the book and as we know, no two kids are alike. I have had to change doctors because I have felt that something is not right...........go with your instincts........good luck
My son and daughter spit up a lot also. I was told it was due to the fact that they may have just ate more than there little stomachs can hold so it is basically just the spill over. Especailly if it isn't bothering your little guy there isn't that much room for concern. If it was bothering him there may be some GI issues. If he continues to grow even if under average he is healthy just as long as he continues up the scale and not down. I hope this gives you some relief, but if you are still concerned get a second opinion it may make you feel better. Good luck!!!
My daughter had similar issues. She would projectile vomit several times a day for months. She was severely underweight, way below the 0th percentile on the growth chart. She also used to spit up a clear fluid, when all she was drinking was formula. After being spit up on a few times, I realized that the clear fluid was kind of mucous-like. It was never anywhere near of a serious problem as the projectile vomiting. I don't think the clear spit up has anything to do with your son's low weight. He might just be a little tall and lanky (nothing wrong with that!). I would be more concerned if he was spitting up his formula. My daughter was also diagnosed with acid reflux. It might be worth it to talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!
It's a little scary that your doctor has no clue. It's not too uncommon for little ones to spit up like that. The little flap at the top of their stomachs may slow in forming, completely which is pretty common, allowing food to come back up. He's probably throwing up clear liquid because his tummy has already digested his food. It's like the dry heaves. He'll probably out grow it in the next few months but if not re-consult your doctor.
