Please advise: I have to go back to work in 2 months and I am starting introducing a bottle to my 4 month old son. I express breast milk and put it in the bottle but, he refuses to take it even if he is hungry. I nurse him exclusevly for all the time. He just doesn't like anything in his mouth except breast. I tried to use differnt nipples. No luck...

So What Happened?

Thank you, ladies, so much for all your responses. I am going to ask my husband to stay for few hours with the baby and try to feed him from the bottle. I need a time out. I cannot take my baby's cry as I am ready to give up.
Best wishes to all,
I..

My son did the same thing. He rarely had a bottle but would take one without a problem until he hit 3 months. Then refused to take it all the sudden. After some research here it what I found, have your husband try and give him the bottle, or someone beside you because he most likely won't take if form you as he can smell your milk. In fact you shouldn't be in the room or around when someone trys to give the bottle, also have them face baby out and in a sitting position. They recommend making it different from breastfeeding positions. Also try the bottle before he is hungry. Good luck, it sometimes worked for us, we didn't push it too hard and now he is 5 months and started taking a bottle again all of a sudden, even from me.

I.,
I had the same problem, and actually the playtex nursers with the drop in bags work best. if you see your baby will latch on the exact same way as he does on you. just make sure you get the brown (latex) nipples not the silicone ones they come with.

Try the NUK nipple and have someone else feed him. Take a break away for a few hours and let someone else be there for him to give him the bottle. There will be a lot of crying but when he gets hungry enough and sees that your not around he'll take the bottle. Then you need to alternate between breast and bottle when feeding him or just giving him breast at night. All your baby knows is that when he sees you he knows you have the real thing so why would he want anything else. So stay strong, don't give in and most important... Be Consistent!
