My youngest has to have the above procedures done next week. I know they are going to put her under which absolutely terrifies me! Have any mama's or papa's been through something like this before. On Wednesday she can only be on clear diet. What are some things she can have? I know she can not have reds/purples after 2pm. How do I keep her from crying all day that she is hungry? We also have to get her completely cleaned out which means 4oz water with a capful of Miralax, then after 4oz of just water or juice. We have to repeat this for 10 hours straight. I do not know how to help her understand what we are doing to her. I'm afraid she won't drink as much as she needs to. I can't force it. I'm getting really worried as it gets closer! Please any advice would be helpful!

Added: She has had constipation issues for almost 3 years now. Miralax is not working, and the specialist is not happy with her progress. She wants to do this to rule out any isues since nothig has worked as of yet.

What can I do next?

Jello & Popsicles? Lots and lots of it...so sorry :( Saying a prayer for your family right now! Try not to worry & just place it in Gods hands :)

My son had a few done and his dr said nothing red to eat or drink cause it can stain the bowel. And the Miralax has no taste. You can always add it to something she may not be able to have like sprite it your worried about her not wanting to drink it.

I'm not gonna lie, it's gonna be a day of hell with that clear diet.
Adults hate it too.
May I ask why she is having to do this? It really seems extreme for a 4yr old.
Good luck.
Clear diet means clear. You have to be able to see through it, it cant be cloudy. Let your imagination be your guide. Strained chicken broth is considered clear.

sprite is good too. freeze some gatorade ahead of time as well (maybe try a few doses of miralax in the frozen mixture and you could put it in the blender). Try some clear chicken broth (make sure it is the kind of broth that has NO FAT in it, I think the cubes are ok, but check that).

4 year olds are all about games and rewards. Can you stock up on small prizes for a grab bag? Write out the doses and when so she can see her "goals" and then she can pick something out of the grab bag. Another one would be for you to write silly things on slips of paper for you or her to do like funny faces, run around the house while singing the barney song, try to stand on your head, things like that in a bag she can draw from.

Good luck.

I agree with poster below....it sucks. Popsicles or clear power aide is what he ate. But he was starving...and grouchy.... The procedure and anesthesia really is a piece of cake compared to preparation. It took me an hour to get my son to drink the magnesium citrate!

I really wouldn't worry much. It's not going to be easy...but recovery is a breeze and it will be over before you know it. Just store up some patience for when she is starving.....and gets lots of things to distract her.
