Hello moms! My son is turning 4 in a few weeks and I'm searching for ideas for a birthday party in the Libertyville area. We have not been to a 4 year old b-day party with kids, so I don't have any basis on what works for this age group. I would love some party suggestions! Thanks you.

What can I do next?

I had my son's 4th birthday at Pump It Up in Vernon Hills and totally recommend it. Even the adults had a great time on the slides.

For my son's 4th we rented out a play area at our park district (deerfield) which was great. It had a ball pit for the 4 year olds and toys/equipment for younger kids outside the ball pit. Some ooher ideas...

Firezone (can search on line for locations)
Rent a Metra Train car (surpsingly affordable)
Bowling
Petland (not all stores will host party - search on line for locations)
Pump It Up (Vernon Hill location)
Candy making (we did this at Georgia Nut in Glenview but other places may be near you)
Ceramic making

My Jump Place in Vernon Hills is a great place to have a party for children this age. My son, and a lot of his friends had there 4 and 5 yr old parties ther. Also any gymnastics places throw wonderful childrens parites. The one place that comes to mins is Ultimate Gymnastics in Gurnee. A great place for a party. Good luck , and have fun!

I don't know if you have a local YMCA, but the one in Palatine (Buehler) has a big multi-purpose room, and then a Family Activity Center, complete with a big "maze" (similar to a McDonald's playland). We decorate the room ourselves and bring in food (either order pizzas or make something from home). It's unique because lots of other people seem to do with Chuckie Cheese or Pump It Up.

You have the option of doing a pool party too if you want.

Finally, I know some local pottery places let you do parties too. Even the littlest kids are SOOOO happy to have their own creation to show off. The bummer is that the pieces need to be fired and aren't available for pick up for a few days, but my kids STILL talk about their day at the "painting" store.

Just another idea to consider.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything where the kids get to run around and have fun. Especially this time of year when they are so couped up.

Have you considered letting your son decide between a couple of options? I let my kids do this - as in, we can have 10 friends at the Y maze or we can take two friends out to lunch at a restaurant.

I hope this helps!

Three words...Pump it Up. It's awesome and the kids love it. They do everything for you - even write down the gifts. My son (3.5) just went to his 2nd party Saturday and we had so much fun. We will be having his party there in June.

I would suggest Pump It Up - the moon bounce place in Vernon Hills Or Chuckie Cheese also in Vernon Hills. Both would be appropriate for 4 year olds.
Good luck!

Ask your son. At four he should be articulate enough to talk about what he likes to do. Once he's given you some ideas (and, admittedly, a few may not be possible), you can sit down with him and "plan" the party. Believe me, he'll love it. Remember to keep it simple, both to make it easier on you and on your son and his friends. It doesn't have to be fancy, as long as it's fun. As I'm sure you know, little boys at that age love physical activity. Enjoy.
