I was wondering if anyone had a daughter have problems with her private area? Mine tells me it burns all the time. I have taken her to the Dr. and the tell me that is is called voiding and that urine is sitting there and irritating the skin. Also wiping hard and vigorous. I gave her a bath and then washed her off and she kept crying that it burned even after she got out of the bath and dried her off. i am at a loss I don't know how to help her and figure this out. I don't know what could bring it on more than others she goes to the bathroom a lot. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My 4 year old had the same problem. Here's how we fixed it.

1. No more baths. Showers only. Sorry. The soap and dirt in the tub is irritating for some little girls. And don't use liquid soap - it's too strong and is harder to wash off than bar soap.

2. Have her pull down her pants all the way to her ankles when she goes pee, and have her sit with her legs as wide as possible. Then have her finish peeing and sit there for the count of three.

3. Have her sit with her legs wide and wipe sitting down, from front to back.

4. If she looks red and irritated, put a little bit of aquaphor on her vulva after the bath - externally only!

It took about a week and a half of this for my daughter's issue to resolve. Good luck!

After you get the active skin irritation under control (vaseline, etc.), you can add about a cup of white vinegar to her bathwater. It won't sting. Try it in your own bathwater first to prove it to yourself. It's an old wives tale remedy, but apparently changes the ph balance enough to make it hostile to bacteria growth. A cousin told me about it when my daughter was 8 or so and having lots of trouble wetting the bed, damp panties, and occasional UTIs. Works like a charm for women of all ages.

Dear K.:

These symptoms are typical of yeast. Not an easy to deal with when moisture is always in that area.

There is a product call Egyptian Magic that you can apply to the entire area. It can also be applied inside if necessary.

It will waterproof the area and heal the tissues. It is made of food so it can be also placed in the mouth.

You can find it at ###-###-####. They can ship it to you.

If the problem comes back you can treat this internally.

You would have to contact www.ndinutraceuticals.com

There is also a new product on the market called Healing Cream that will reduce all the prostaglandin's in the local area which will stop the pain within minutes. That should be available at the www. link above.

Good Luck

Kim

I have daughters. I have never had this problem with them.
Perhaps you should get a second opinion on your daughter's issue. This sounds serioius and it will only get worse if you let it go.

Good luck

My daughter had the same problem a couple months ago - vaginitis.
1) the doctor OK'd baths with NO bubbles - just baking soda
2) A&D ointment on her vaginal area
3) remind her that when she goes pee, to 'let all of the pee' out.

It was my daughter's wet or damp panies that caused the irritation. Now if she has any signs of additional complaints of pain or irritation, she knows to apply the ointment.

Maybe the bath soap is irritating her? I ran out of my daughters usual bath soap and used mine for a couple of days on her till I got to the store. She kept complaining about burning as well. I stopped using my soap and the burn went away. Not sure if that is what it is, but just suggesting a different reason to the problem?

Good luck.

First, no more baths. Second, just wash that area with water, no soap - the vagina is self-cleaning, it doesn't really need soap unless she gets feces in there when she wipes. Also, make sure she's not pleasuring herself too much. Mastubation in this age is completely normal (usually rubbing oneself over clothes), but if she's doing it too much, or too vigorously, it can leave her chaffed.

My daughter says her vagina hurts often. Usually if I let her do the bath and don't check to make sure she is washing it well. We do not use soap when it is sore and that usually fixes it. Sometimes we use an ointment like lanolin or bag balm. Even diaper rash cream or Vasoline can help it.

Is she red in this area? My daughter experiences the same thing but you can tell that she hasn't wiped properly. Also if you daughter has a BM and doesn't wipe properly that can irritate her vaginal area not just drops of left over urine. I always use a little desitin or aquafor which helps keep the area dryer and protected from acidity. Keep bathing her from the waste down regularly and have her drink lots of water too! Burning when urinating if no UTI or yeast problem is also a sign of lack of not drinking enough water and voiding enough...If it persists I would get a second opinion.

Try using a diaper rash cream overnights. It will help to clear up any redness or irritation very quickly. Just make sure the area is dry before applying.
